They are extremely well organised and have the capacity to get large numbers of people on the streets at short notice - anyone remember the 'hunger strike' in Parliament Square a few years ago? The fact that not a few of the Sri Lankans have relatives back in Sri Lanka does act as an incentive for them to protest when they might want a quiet life, i.e. 'you'd like to attend our protest wouldn't you? You wouldn't want anything happening to your mum and dad back home?'. I suspect that this is a carrying on of feuds from Sri Lanka and the civil war/late unpleasantness or whatever we wish to call it. I've dealt with Sri Lankan criminality and it erupts when and where you least suspect it (hint - if you take bookings for playing fields and the words 'Sri Lankan Cricket Tournament' are mentioned tread very carefully, likewise Tamil Film Festivals) I was on a course with some Canadian cops and they had not a few stories to tell about Sri Lankan criminality - for Canadians they got quite excited. Of course they laugh at the police over here - as Swanseajock said a tin of mild irritant and an aluminium tickling stick aren't much of a deterrent but that is the system that has evolved over here, like it or lump it.
As regards to Southgate I suspect 'civilians' not involved in the feud are reasonably safe. Some time ago there was an incident where one of these people was stopped by (unarmed) police, all he said was 'you might be interested in this', and handed over his handgun. He was a footsoldier and they were told not to aggravate/wind up police. This was a good few years ago and as these people push the boundaries they will realise that they can get away with more in the UK than they would back home or on mainland Europe. Anyhow, more fun and games for all are guaranteed.
ReiredAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-627081175329856970.post-61995374215703432482013-06-24T17:58:43.830+01:002013-06-24T17:58:43.830+01:00In my country they would run as fast as they can f...In my country they would run as fast as they can from the police but here they just laugh at them.....that is because in your country the police are armed with more than a metal stick and a can of condiment. They would get shot in your country, but here our bleeding heart liberals abhor the thought of criminals getting hurt. Much better for the innocent bystanders and public to get hurt.
