As there was no actual complaint, and since no-one was actually hurt, he would be procedurally correct to leave the scene and go looking for some upright citizen who had put their bin out twenty minutes early. After all, the law must be upheld.Richardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15743685798068014455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-627081175329856970.post-11397149004671415012011-09-23T14:56:29.732+01:002011-09-23T14:56:29.732+01:00One evening in the mid 90s I was standing in the c...One evening in the mid 90s I was standing in the city centre speaking to a friend as we were about to go our separate ways after leaving a gay pub. We were no more than 3 metres from a police officer leaning against his car eating pizza. Seemingly out of nowhere a young Jamaican appeared, towering over me (and I am not short) and gibbering in my face (at great volume and with evident feeling) vile lyrics from a then-current 'song' calling for the murder of homosexuals. In some shock and not really able to speak, I looked at the officer and made a 'WTF?' gesture. He got in his car and drove away. Thankfully the savage did not press home his advantage but just loped off.

At the time, I put it down to the officer's personal cowardice. Nowadays it seems to be official policy.Trevornoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-627081175329856970.post-2925387634896326362011-09-23T11:55:26.189+01:002011-09-23T11:55:26.189+01:00@ SBC ..

No it isn't. It's your job to deter and detect crime, and to enforce the law. Which, by the way, is the law in the law books, not the law as you would like it to be.

I don't envy the police their task here, but they have to decide whose side they are on.Richardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15743685798068014455noreply@blogger.com
