They have one of the worst detection and clear up rates in the country and are held in increasingly open public contempt. Of course they will investigate this as it means playing with "celebs" rather than catching real criminals. You may remember that it was our police farce that took a statue of Lara Croft into custody after smashing their way into the owners house claiming they thought it was a real gun. Only after the media made them look even more useless than normal did they return the now broken statue claiming it happened after they released the statute to its rightful owner.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-627081175329856970.post-23388749681566799102009-09-15T07:55:03.479+01:002009-09-15T07:55:03.479+01:00But mouthing an obscenity..? Is that even a crime? An interesting point, the answer to which I have asked time and time again on police blogs about various such "no crime" incidents, and have never recieved an answer.

But then when, as a year or two ago, you get van drivers being arrested for basically "looking at a bin bag wearing woman, "in a racist manner"" I am reminded of the sketch on "Not the nine O'Clock news" where Rowan Atkinsson is the inspector, pointing out that "using a zebra crossing whilst being black" is NOT an offence. Replace black with white today, and Britain is NO different to that sketch. Except maybe the inspector is not CRITISIZING the constable.
