Essex Police officers are to get special talking cars to stop them filling up with the wrong kind of fuel. Can I tentatively suggest that the problem isn't the wrong kind of fuel. You are obviously recruiting the wrong type of policeman!
The force is introducing fuel-cap devices, which will remind staff whether to put petrol or diesel in their vehicle.
And we don't know how much it's going to cost to turn the average cop car into KITT, but we do know that these mistakes have cost £42,000 over the last five years.
I know it sounds obvious, but as someone who used to swap regularly between diesel and petrol vehicles I know how easy it is to forget. That said, we didn't need talking cars - we just had big stickers on the fuel caps that read "DIESEL" or "PETROL". If it worked for your average van courier I'm sure the police could figure it out.
ReplyDeletePerhaps all police officers should be sent on a 'Petrol decision making' course, at the taxpayers expense naturally.
ReplyDeleteIt should be called Police Intelligent Talking System, or the PITS...
ReplyDeleteLol!
ReplyDeletePolice vehicles come with a "book" which tells the driver everything he/she needs to know about the vehicle, including what type of fuel it uses, when it was last filled up, who filled it up, where, how many miles were on the clock when it was taken back to the nick, etc. etc. etc. There really is no excuse!
