Janice Carrick was informed she had been captured exceeding the 30mph limit on her Meyra 12-volt electric scooter by a roadside camera./golfclap
However, at the time her vehicle was in for repairs and she was at a hospital appointment almost 40 miles away.
Nice job, WYP....
Miss Carrick said: "I'd need to make a few modifications to my scooter to be able to get to Leeds let alone travel at 41 mph.Indeed. You’d think they’d realise that when they looked at the photo before sending...
Oh:
West Yorkshire's Safety Casualty Reduction Partnership, has re-examined the vehicle photographed and now found the vehicle involved was not a four-wheel electric mobility scooter. And the person who made the error has been sent to Specsavers, one hopes. If not sacked for gross negligence.
But it seems that being shown up to be a bunch of incompetent jobsworths doesn’t put a crimp in their stride one little bit:
Police believe the mix-up may have resulted from someone cloning a number plate. A spokesman said: "We would urge Miss Carrick to contact us herself and explain the circumstances so that we can investigate the matter further."Really...? She needs to contact you?
For what? A grovelling apology and a large bunch of flowers, I’d hope. After all, what more can there be to ‘explain’...?
It's probably to do with their highly expensive computer system; Miss C. is named in the file, so the name on the explanation has to match up - no one else's will do.
ReplyDeleteWe had just such a snarl up when someone pressed the wrong button at the power co. and added a neighbour's bill to our account.
No amount of objection from us could achieve anything; we were apparently liable for the money unless Mr Smith himself contacted them and said the bill was his.
Lucky for us, then, that Mr Smith is an honest man!
Incompetence arises as a result of failures by civilian staff at the West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership - an alliance of several Authorities. Head of service is a Chief Inspector Moorhouse Everett, who has overall responsibility for the procedures and civilian staff. Clerks process the speed camera images and initiate checks with DVLA to ensure registration numbers correspond with the vehicle descriptions. In this case, staff appear to have neglected that procedure.
ReplyDeleteWhen I telephoned today, a clerk was less than helpful but she did confirm that once a fixed penalty notice was issued by the office, the onus was on the registered keeper to contact them so that the process of more checks and form filling could continue. This follow up procedure is irrespective of incompetence at their own end.
My suggestion that error on the part of their office should not inconvenience an innocent motorist was met with "If you want to make a complaint, do so in writing" before promptly hanging up. Such charming people.
Oh, but these old hooligans are a menace. They get hold of the backs of passing trucks to get up to speed. You can hear the Doppler effect on the cackling as they go by.
ReplyDeleteSometimes they go for a burn up the motorway.
Watch out for the ones with spoilers and boom-boxes. Usually to be found riding up and down the high street all night long, playing the Archers theme tune at full blast.
If it wasn't for the cameras, the police would never catch them.
"No amount of objection from us could achieve anything..."
ReplyDeleteThat sounds about right for today's modern, computer driven 'services'.
This poor lady can't even convince anyone she's pregnant without the right little bit of paper!

All far too typical...

As well as making a nuisance of themselves in the cinema...
