That Didn't Take Long...

A newly-elected mayor who threatened to cut funding to a South Yorkshire town's Gay Pride festival has said the money will now go to the event.
Don't make promises you can't keep, Peter.

That's not the way to get re-elected...

  2. Might have been something contractual perhaps? Personally I think it's a fair decision given that they'd be promised by his predecessor.
    However:

Jenny Dewsnap of the Doncaster Pride Committee said: "We are naturally very pleased with the decision.
    ...
"With or without council funding, the Pride event will take place. If we don't get the funding next year, we will look to source it from elsewhere."

Go on then, Jen. And while you're at it try to come up with a good reason why you haven't been doing that for years instead of expecting the taxpayer to pay. I'd be saying exactly the same thing if it was Straight White Middle Class Male Pride - nothing wrong with the event, just fucking pay for it yourselves.

  3. It's a bit sad that he dropped in principles in the nearest puddle. I think parades, infact any such events should be self funded unless it's the traditional "village fete".

Why on earth should the ordinary taxpayer fund them when councils are cutting back on essential services.

  4. I thought traditional village fetes usually were self funded through raffle tickets, cake sales etc. Or have the various licences and insurance requirements these days pushed the costs up so they have to rely on LA benevolence?

  5. No doubthe was bombarded with 'advice' from the council officials and the solicitor's department notifying him of the threatened lgal actions that had landed on the Town Hall mat. Much like Boris found out once he entered City Hall, reality in local government is a very different from real life after the 'loony left' have been in control for 30 years!

A perfect score of 10 for this breathtaking somersault must daunt the many other competitors for the UK political U-turn Champions Cup.

Can't even manage to be an effective bastard.

He also appears to have the IQ of a teapot.
