Civil War In Labour Party (Local)...

It appears kissing-phobic Leyton MP Harry Cohen may need to screw up his courage and start practicing kissing babies in the next election after all:
A source close to the constituency party said: “In 2005, Harry Cohen’s majority dropped from 14,000 to 7,000.

“That majority is going down to zero. The party is unpopular nationally and locally.”
Oh, dear. But never fear, Harry's (possibly) here after all:
It has been reported that Jack Dromey, husband of deputy leader Harriet Harman, could be ‘parachuted in’ but it is now rumoured incumbent Harry Cohen could take back his resignation.

Mr Cohen was to step down at the next election following the scandal over MPs’ expenses but could now do a U-turn to keep the seat safe, the insider said.
It seems that this is another potential catastrophe of Labour's own making, too:
A representative of the London party was invited to a special meeting in the constituency last night to clarify issues surrounding the process but failed to attend.
Oops! Perhaps he didn't want to risk a big sloppy wet one from Harry?

  1. They're giving up on hopeless seats and trying to hold on to their big ones.

As Devil's Kitchen points out, they're as skint as the rest of the country and they can't afford to contest where they aren't likely to win. There'll be a lot of local Labour groups finding themselves just dumped.

That should cause merry hell within the party, which can only be a good thing. Might bring a few of them to their senses!

  2. It's going to be interesting to see how hard they campaign in Barking now that Griffin has thrown his Teutonic helmet into the ring, isn't it...? ;)
