Schizophrenic On Somalia…

So, on the one hand, we are reluctant to take action against Somali pirates threatening British citizens:
Crack Royal Marine commandos were ready for a daring raid which could have saved two Britons captured by Somali pirates, it was revealed yesterday.

But they were twice ordered by top brass not to go.
Twice. Not once. Twice
The aborted raid, which left the Marines furious, has been described by one of Wave Knight's crew. It raises serious doubts about whether the Defence Ministry and the head of the Royal Navy tried to cover up the truth with misleading statements.

Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope, the First Sea Lord, and officials have repeatedly claimed the naval vessel had no rescue force. But the Marines had just completed training on assaulting a pirate ship.
Oh, great! There seems to be a lot of that about lately, doesn’t there?
The MoD said last night: 'The First Sea Lord has always been clear that Wave Knight and those in command of this mission did exactly the right things. Could action have been taken with a guarantee of the safety of the Chandlers, they would have.'
If you wait for a guarantee of safety, you’ll never do anything, will you?

Meanwhile, we heap taxpayer largesse on refugees from the same place:
A Somali family are living in a luxury £1.8million five- storey house in central London funded by the taxpayer.

Nasra Warsame, 40, has lived with seven of her children and her elderly mother in the six-bedroom house since October.
*sigh*
The fully-furnished house, within walking distance of the West End, has three sitting rooms and four bathrooms.

The main lounge has two leather sofas, a flat-screen television and a glass coffee table. Annual rent for the house would cost £83,200.
Just what I needed to hear having slogged in to work in the pouring rain to help pay for it.

Why do any of us bother?
It is understood the rent being paid by the council is twice the going rate for a property in the area. It is unclear why this is the case.
Err, perhaps because they saw the council coming?
Meanwhile, Mrs Warsame's husband Bashir Aden, 50, and another of their children are living in a separate property in nearby Camden.
So, they have two houses, courtesy of the British taxpayer?

Why?
He said they live separately because the family is too big to fit under one roof.
Ah, but…
Mrs Warsame and her husband fled unrest in Somalia in 1991 and claimed asylum in Britain.

They have since been granted citizenship and all of their children were born here.
That’s right. After they were granted asylum. They didn’t come here mob-handed. They came here, were granted asylum and then citizenship (and once you have that, unlike asylum seekers, you can work, can't you?) and then proceeded to breed themselves out of the accommodation provided...

Listen, Mr Warsame, if your family is too big for their living accommodation, whose fault is that? Not mine. Why, exactly, should I pay for it?

And who are the real pirates here?

Can anyone tell me a f****** thing Somalia or Somalis contribute to this country apart from criminal gangs, benefit recipients (often very fat, swathed in cloth and in the supermarket) and Islamist nutters?

  2. Dr Cromarty (and JuliaM)- you're not far off the mark in 'stereotyping'( as the leftists call inductive generalisation)Somalis resident in the UK as benefit recipients. Over 80% of them rely on welfare benefits as their principal source of income.

However you're quite wrong in assuming that Indian restaurants are owned principally by 'hard-working, integrated' Indian Hindus. Most 'Indian' restaurants in the UK are owned and run by Bangladeshi muslims, and have been so for around 40 years.

  3. Just because I didn't mention the Bangladeshis doesn't mean I'm ignorant of them. I specifically mentioned Hindu Indians for obvious reasons.

That said I have a Muslim Indian colleague who is about as integrated as they come. He uses the foulest language to describe Pakistanis.

Nope. Can't think of a thing, actually.

You say 'stereotyping', I say 'experience'... ;)

  6. The pirates do it because there is no one to stop them.
Rehabilitation of these criminals should start at the business end of a gun boat
