Quote Of The Month

From Laban, on the case of the Somali shot in the act of attacking Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard:
The Telegraph say the intruder was a Somali and he had an axe. The BBC say he was 'a man' and had a hammer (whether he intended to bring about love between the brothers and the sisters all over this land - or any other land - is unclear).
*chuckle*

  2. Standard and Poor's credit rating shock should find BBC funds suddenly heavily cut. We can dream!

  3. I've been wondering if any conclusions can be drawn from the CrimeWatch Most Wanted wall.

I can't help noticing that at least 50% of the characters are probably not British born. I don't mean just British with an unusual name, but what the public would recognize as 'foreigners'. To be fair, the BBC gives ethnic origins in the outlines as it helps identify the person the police are looking for.

Since the guestimate is that about 8% of the population is ethnic minorities, and on the assumption that the propensity to commit crime is evenly distributed over the population, it should be that the most wanted wall should only have one (two in some weeks) which would strike one as immediately foreign, out of the ten highlighted each week.

I expect there is something wrong with my assumptions.

For folk wondering about how long you can expect to serve for killing your 19 year old girlfriend (not that age matters in this respect; is it any more acceptable to kill someone of 39? Is it OK if they are 89 and on their way out?) one of the people they are looking for is:

40-year-old Raymond Gunnell is wanted for breaching his Parole Licence. He received a life sentence in December 1990 for the murder of his 19-year-old girlfriend in Grimsby. He served 9 yrs and was released on a life licence in December 1999 to a bail hostel in Kent.

They can. Unhelpful ones, though, from the point of the progressives.
