The woman in charge of a controversial road-widening scheme says she has received a death threat.Oh, dear. That’s a very bad thing to have to recie…
Ah:
Anna Waite, Southend councillor responsible for transport, received a threatening letter from a disgruntled campaigner challenging her to “a duel to the death” .*sigh*
Sweetie, that’s a genuine ‘death threat’ in the same way that this is a genuine ‘terrorist threat’…
Mrs Waite said she had suffered “personal attacks” from those opposed to the scheme and has passed on the threatening letter to the police. You need to grow a thicker skin, then. Did someone tell you being a councillor was all sunshine and kittens?
She added: “It’s intimidation. I deeply resent the personal attacks. I find it very unpleasant and worrying.”
The issue threatened to boil over at a council meeting last Thursday when more than 30 protesters turned up to heckle councillors, forcing a 45-minute delay to the meeting. So what?
The protesters also unveiled a banner saying “Nigel Holdcroft and Anna Waite out” and one woman threatened to chain herself to the railings of the public gallery.
Are they not allowed to have their say? If they break the law, the police will arrest them.
But that’s not enough for Anna:
“For a small group, to do what they did at the council meeting was appalling. It’s not an ‘either/or’ option, sweetie. They can stand for election AND protest in the street, if they want to.
“The council meeting was part of the democratic process and if they don’t like it, why don’t they stand for election?
“They’ve done it twice, to my knowledge, and lost on both occasions.”
It’s called ‘democracy’…
Mrs Waite accused the campaigners of launching a “dirty tricks” campaign and also criticised comments about her, left on the Echo website.Oh, boo hoo…
If they’ve libelled you, sue. If they haven’t, bear up, like everyone else does.
This is why people are turned off politics. It's not enough for this ghastly woman to wield her political power like a chainsaw, she expects to never, ever be challenged on it by anyone.
Comments are, as ever, rather illuminating...
Chaining themselves to rails because they opposed a road-widening scheme? Crikey, those Lefties had even more time on their hands than I realised.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite a common phenomenon, I have observed, for people to remark that the Government is elected and therefore it is undemocratic to oppose anything the Government wants.
ReplyDeleteThis odious individual clearly thinks the same way.
Strangely, this is usually suggested by Labour people, but only when Labour Governments are in power.
"Crikey, those Lefties had even more time on their hands than I realised."
ReplyDeleteOften the case, isn't it?
"Strangely, this is usually suggested by Labour people, but only when Labour Governments are in power."
Today's Tories are indistinguishable from Labour, don't you find?
