Why Should The Government Have To Help You To Have 'A Normal Family Life'..?

Problem families who make the lives of their neighbours a misery with antisocial behaviour are the target of a new community programme.
Ooh, I'm hoping, here.

I'm hoping this is going to be some good old zero tolerance, shape-up-or-ship-out action. But that word, 'community'. It bothers me. It says 'doing things on the cheap'.

Oh. Wait:
Southend Council’s youth offending team joined forces with South Essex Homes to win £230,000 of Government funding to tackle the problem across the town.
Well, that's certainly not on the cheap, is it?!

What's the money going towards? Cattle prods? A set of stocks for the village green? Extra prison places? Bringing Joe Arpaio over for some consultation?
The money will see a dedicated unit set up in the borough to work with individuals, families and children who are likely to be involved in antisocial or nuisance behaviour, in many cases helping stop them getting evicted.
Oh.
Carol Compton, head of Southend Council’s youth offending team, said:...“We all know bringing up a family can sometimes be a difficult task, and this programme provides support and advice to lead a normal family life.”
What..?

I lead a 'normal family life'. So do my neighbours. Oddly enough, we do it without help from a team of council taxpayer teat-suckers, too...
Kilworth Avenue resident Glyn Evans, a long-time community campaigner in the Kursaal area, said: “Antisocial behaviour isn’t just a bit of loud noise or bad behaviour now and then, it can be a life-ruining experience.

“I am personally fully supportive of anything that can be done to reduce the incidence of anti-social behaviour at the root cause, and not just paper over it by threatening people or sending them to prison.”
There you go. They'd rather spend your money on pandering to scum and 'assisting' them not to be scum than in 'punishing' them.

Sums up modern life just beautifully, doesn't it? In fact, as a commenter says:
Nebs, Westcliff-on-Sea says...

The worse you are, the more you get.
Well, this isn't a recipe for disaster or anything, then...

And why, when the response from the Righteous to other initiatives to improve the way the lazy and feckless behave is considered to be 'imposing our own value system' on them, is money poured down the drain on this sort of thing?

  1. What a sodding bore you are. Tell me are you some disenchanted, ugly old bint who just needs a fuck? And yes, I know you're ugly.

  2. @anon: Dammit, they've rumbled me! ;)

I take it, anon, you have a family that needs this 'help'? Or you have a job that depends on a steady flow of families needing this 'help'?

Do enlighten me as to how this is a useful project. I await your detailed analysis with breathless anticipation.

  3. You have to wonder who dealt with the problem in the days prior to local councils receiving huge wads of resources to squander on ineffective control.

I seem to recall that before they became pretty much antisocial themselves, we paid police to deal with antisocial behaviour.

We still pay the police handsomely but they prefer to deal with those matters having commissions and rewards attached.

So the day has arrived when police pick and choose the laws they will enforce - with a broker's eye on what is best, most lucrative and easiest for themselves.

And wouldn't you do the same if you could?

  4. ANother tedious example of spending taxpayers money on a council One STop Arse Wipe shop for ming mong. Yesterday the Met announced yet another money draining scheme to ejakate kidz abaht guns an dat. 10 years of pouring money down that particular black hole has failed so why bother now? Same with all these silly schemes for anti-social behaviour. Nothing has worked before and zillions have been spent on various 'arse wipe' schemes across the UK for over 10 years too. The only thing that will work is for these people to realize that it won't be tolerated and there will be real consequences as opposed to being issued with another silly social worker. I suppose there'll be some new jobs for 'infant exposure to sun' advisors and support workers after the awful story of the child with 40% burns after 'mum' let it baste on the seafront at Brighton. Christ!

Aren't the ConDEms ding away with money wasting schemes?

  5. Don't get breathless anticipating Julia, people like Anon aren't worth that amount of effort.

This goes on here too. The council is full of little 'teams' looking after the 'needy'.
The teams are usually comprised of failed social workers so that shows you the level of competence.

When I asked 'what about the elderly' I was bluntly told they were not in their remit. That's comforting right enough, but I didn't mean elderly trouble-makers, my point was the money would be far better spent on caring for the elderly. They knew that of course.

  6. Hi J,

They never learn do they, once again a shoulder to cry on and some freebies thrown their way and they think the scum will see the light ...WRONG!

The only way these morons will ever learn to respect their neighbours etc is when there are consequences for their actions.

  7. I wounder how many extra policemen (real ones, not plastic plod) 230 grand would buy you?

Oh, great. In my Close there is one family, I use that term loosely, that urinate in the street, place their rubbish anywhere but in the bins and recently threatened to kill on of my other neighbours. Needless to say it's a council owned property and none of them work.

It's good to know they will get the help they need, at our expense, to continue to stay here, at our expense. Way to go, PC numpties!

  9. All Citizen Units are identical. Any Citizen Unit malfunctioning will be repaired. Repairs cost money.

You are not unable to work through genuine illness.
    You go to the workhouse.
    Where you will work.

  12. I would impose 10 strokes of the cane on their backsides. I doubt they would get up to much antisocial behaviour again. Physical pain will make the scum think again.

But, just occasionally, it can bring a smile to your face....

  14. Council Units such as this are just make work schemes for middle class layabouts with sociology degrees. The actual amount of benefit to anyone (including the antisocial people they are supposed to be helping) is zero. All the benefit accrues to the employees, in salaries and pension rights. Thats where the £230K of cash will be going. Not actually paying for things that could help people, just salaries.

Conclusion - sack the lot of them, put the money behind the bar at a local pub, let everyone get p*ssed. More enjoyment all round I suspect.

  15. The origional intention for "Konzentrationlager" (NOT Vernichtungslager! Orannienburg was a Konzentrationslager, Auschwitz was a Vernichtungslager), was to give the lazy, and criminal classes....something usefull to do.

Not EVERYTHING that came from the nazis was a bad idea.

  18. Surely there are other methods of tackling this problem?
    The Dutch solution to yobbery

Perhaps all the outreach co-ordinators of such programmes (like anon @ 11.09)can join their "clients".

    Indeed.

"The only thing that will work is for these people to realize that it won't be tolerated and there will be real consequences..."

    Couldn't agree more.

We've tried carrots, ands when that didn't work, more carrots. Isn't it about time someone remembered there should be a stick?

Heh! They hear what they want to hear...

"The only way these morons will ever learn to respect their neighbours etc is when there are consequences for their actions."

We've made Britain the Land of No Consequences. What did we really expect would happen?

Like me, I suspect you aren't greatly encouraged by the ConDems announcement on benefits yesterday, then?

"But, just occasionally, it can bring a smile to your face..."

Heh! No surprise to hear Liverpool accents...

"Council Units such as this are just make work schemes for middle class layabouts with sociology degrees."

Well, what else would we do with them?

"Perhaps all the outreach co-ordinators of such programmes (like anon @ 11.09)can join their "clients"."

Heh! That would be amusing to watch...

Heh! No surprise to hear Liverpool accents... Sometimes we hear what we want to hear, sounds more like West Yorkshire accents to me, but hey ho what do I know, I'm a scouser.

It sounded quite nice but seemed totally devoid of content, unless I missed something. Dare I say it? Seemed like a lot of gas from olde IBS TBH...
