Tawana Brawley, Crystal Gail Mangum, And Now...

...Noor Ramjanally.

Oh, you remember him, don't you? The left wing cause celebre? The story that so outraged no less than bandwagon-jumper extraordinaire Inayat Bunglawala?

The story that several bloggers, including yours truly, said didn't pass the smell test?

Well, that smell just got stronger and stronger, until...
A Muslim community leader who claimed he was kidnapped by BNP members at knifepoint has today been jailed for perverting the course of justice.
But don't start cheering just yet. Our good old British justice system has not actually jailed him in the strictest sense of the word:
More than £100,000 was spent on the investigation into his allegations which wasted more than 900 hours of police time.

He was given a two-year sentence in his absence after failing to attend Chelmsford Crown Court in Essex today.

It is believed Ramjanally has returned to his native Mauritius.
And as if that waste of money and time wasn't enough:
The court heard after the verdict that Ramjanally is being investigated for three other allegations.

One relates to money stolen from a mosque he was involved with, the second is over benefit fraud and the third is to do with his immigration status.
Anyone want to bet whether we'll ever see him again?

Yeah. That's what I thought, too.

But I bet Bungle is even more conspicuous by his absence from CiF following this. Oh, yes, Inayat, the Internet has a long memory. And so do I.

We aren't going to let you forget this one...

The real question is do we want to see him again? How much does it cost to keep someone in jail?

One relates to money stolen from a mosque he was involved with, Schadenfreude springs to mind.

the second is over benefit fraud We won't get the money back and it will cost us more to keep him.

the third is to do with his immigration status Whatever that means but he isn't here so no need to push that one.

If he does come back no doubt he will claim is human right to be housed, clothed, fed and have his health care provided by the tax payers.

Best thing that can happen is that we never see him again.

  3. Maybe this time he really has been kidnapped. They needn't bother to send a ransom note, though.

  4. The Judge was unsure as to whether he made up the story, to increase tension in the area or for his own vanity.
Makes you wonder how many other allegations are fictitious.

I bet we never see him again under the name 'Noor Ramjanally'.

But I wouldn't bet on never seeing him on these shores...

    :D

I seem to remember the usual subjevt a-hootin' and a-hollerin' about some vandalism to a ghastly monument to Stephen Lawrence, which went nowhere once they realised it was bored black teenagers outfor mischief, who didn't know what the building was dedicated to.

    And didn't care, either...
