Can you guess what happened next? Bet you can't:
...bouncers at the Population bar told one group they would not be allowed in to the union club because their face paint could be racist...Yup. Amazing, eh? And they weren't even the first group to have done so:
...even though others had already been allowed in with their make-up on.Naturally, being students, they immediately launched a protest, stormed the bar, burned a few sofas, pointed out the utter insanity of...
Oh, wait. Wrong bunch of students:
President of the society, 21-year-old Charlotte Nicolaou, had to tell other members to wash off the face paint before being allowed in....
She said: ‘We couldn't believe it and were annoyed that other people in our group got in. I would like to know what we can and can't do.
‘I am confused and annoyed because I had to get people to wash their face paint off.’
...
Hang on, let me just see that again:
‘I would like to know what we can and can't do.’Amazing, isn't it? It tells you so much about how the modern-day student thinks. Or, doesn't...
Charlotte, honey, what are you even doing at university?
It's supposedly the place where they teach you to think for your goddamn self, not the sort of place where you plead humbly to know the current prevailing PC madness ruling, so you can avoid offending anyone with your freedom to dress and talk and THINK how you wish...
Isn't it?
Sorry, but you are wrong. Universities now are not about teaching people to think. It is often about teaching students to repeat the mantras of Marxist lemons.
ReplyDeleteMarks (marx?) are awarded for praising long-dead commies and rabble rousers. If you think otherwise, you will not do well at uni.
The lass was confused but she needs to learn (and university life may well teach her this) that white is automatically racist. There are no black or brown racists: their cultures are perfect, ours is nasty.
Wash your face, wash your mouth out.
This is as much about unthinking doorstaff (who's depths of thickness never cease to amaze and thrill) as it is to do with students being programmed to obey.
ReplyDeletePleased that they didn't smash anything up but as they are students of a proper subject rather than that ofarguing a left wing ideology, I expected nothing less.
ReplyDeleteBar staff - either imbeciles or worried on other peoples behalf (that is more deplorable than being an imbecile).
Poor girl, trying to do the right thing (she thought) as she has been programmed by the system and of course, as it is a contrary, hypocritical, self effacing system, ends up more confused than when she started and clearly put manners above everything else.
A shame all round but nobodyis to blame as ever.
If the Leader of Harrogate Borough Council can go to a party as Adolf Hitler, what is wrong with a bit of white face paint? I mean. it's not like they were doing the Black and White Minstrels, now that really is hilarious. Perhaps they ought to stick to having wet burka competitions in the Union bar.

""‘I would like to know what we can and can't do.’""
ReplyDeleteOMG! You can go in a bar with face paint on.
You cant smash up Conservative party HQ.
Are we clear now?
I think Im gonna get very drunk tonight.
It's supposedly the place where they teach you to think for your goddamn self...
ReplyDeleteBeaten to it by Degreed. I'm sure some students graduate having learned to think for themselves, but I suspect it's sometimes in spite of what they're taught rather than because of it. It's a bug, not a feature.
Thought Police, coming on strong.
ReplyDelete"Universities now are not about teaching people to think. It is often about teaching students to repeat the mantras of Marxist lemons. "
ReplyDeleteIndeed, I may well have been a little ironic there... :)
"This is as much about unthinking doorstaff (who's depths of thickness never cease to amaze and thrill) as it is to do with students being programmed to obey."
And yet they let other groups in dressed identically. Shift change? Bored?
Who knows...?
"Pleased that they didn't smash anything up but as they are students of a proper subject rather than that ofarguing a left wing ideology, I expected nothing less."
Good point!
It would be interesting to see which subjects most of the ones involved in the trouble were studying, wouldn't it?
"If the Leader of Harrogate Borough Council can go to a party as Adolf Hitler, what is wrong with a bit of white face paint?"
Heh! :)
"I think Im gonna get very drunk tonight."
ReplyDeleteI wish I could have! Got a busy day tomorr...
Oh. Today!
"I'm sure some students graduate having learned to think for themselves, but I suspect it's sometimes in spite of what they're taught rather than because of it. "
Indeed. Clearly, this one has failed that test.
"Thought Police, coming on strong."
Yup. Training the unthinking drones of the future. The unofficial motto of most places of learning...
