Who Said Crime Doesn’t Pay?

A mother who fraudulently claimed more than £22,500 in benefits has been spared jail.

Lisa Spindler was claiming benefits while her husband earned £130,000 a year from a foreign telecommunications company, Basildon Crown Court heard.

She over-claimed £19,872 in income support and £2,665 in council tax between 2006 and 2009.
Anyone thinking that should be more than enough to see her off for a spell in the big house clearly hasn’t been paying attention…
However, Spindler, 40, of Leighton Road, Benfleet, was shown leniency after she admitted the fraud.
*sigh*
In mitigation, Caroline Moonan said Spindler began claiming for support after her husband was jailed for 12 months for assault.
How is that ‘mitigation’?
She had been left looking after their daughter and her husband’s “troubled” teenaged daughter from a previous relationship.
It’s clear that ‘troubled’ is quite the accurate description for the whole family:
The court also heard Spindler’s step-daughter had become pregnant, and for a time Spindler had been full-time carer to the baby.
It’s like something out of ‘Eastenders’…
Miss Moonan added: “The claims for income support and council tax benefit were genuine for many years before they became false.”
So what?
Spindler had originally been charged with five counts of fraud relating to £37,000 in benefit.

But the court dropped three of the charges after she accepted the fraud. She also managed to pay back £500 the day before she was to be sentenced and arranged for further payments.
Well, that was nice of her, eh?

And the rest?
Spindler was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for a year, 200 hours’ unpaid work and £1,000 costs. She will also face a confiscation hearing on June 7 about recouping some money.
Only ‘some’?

  1. So what? It's only money filched from the hard working classes who foot the bill for fraudulent scum like this. I mean, who cares about who and where the money was stolen from so long as the thieving shitbag is "sorry" for being caught?

When we come for the traitor politicians they'd better bet that we'll come for their compliant frigging judiciary too...

    Bastards

And even if you give them the information they ask for to stop these people, they'll screw it up and leave YOU in the lurch...

  3. Which is why a lot of information comes via anonymous tip-offs. It doesn't pay to sign your name at the bottom of a whistleblowing letter. Reading some of the comments attached to the Daily Fail piece demonstrates why. Apparently the crime that should be investigated isn't fraud, it's "curtain twitching". But then, we live in a society where people electronically pay maudling tribute to the death of some murdering scumbag because he was a nice bloke really, innit.
