Tell That To The Next Guy…

…when you fail to turn up to his reported car break-in:
Superintendent Gary Thompson defended the arrests. ‘We take reports of crimes in progress very seriously, as the public would expect, and allocate resources based on how many officers are available, the quality of the information received and the area we need to cover,’ he said. ‘I make no apology, least of all to any offenders, for responding seriously to an incident like this and would urge the person responsible to think more about the impact their actions had. ‘In the past, people stealing from tips have been responsible for other burglaries or thefts that have had a great impact on the community. ‘It is important not to downgrade our response based on the location of the crime, or the value of the goods.’
Really? A helicopter, two vans, three patrol cars and two dog units? And the penalty for their heinous act?
Mr Gray was allowed to pay £20 to a charity through a scheme that allows officers to deal with small crimes without using the courts.
Great! Now we need a scheme to allow officers to deal with small crimes without using all the shiny toys at their disposal…

A bloody "scheme" ? DIY Justice ? Ignoring the particulars of this crime for a moment...whatever happened to Everyone's right to fair trial by jury ?

F*ck it...might as well all go Vigilante as follow this ridiculous charade of "Law & Order".

  2. How can you steal from a tip? The stuff has been thrown away and it belongs to no-one, unless the councils "own" our rubbish as well.

  3. Some clues here, which trigger my overactive speculation reflex...
Council tip.... spotted when walking away....
I wonder, was this reported to the police by some VIP, perhaps a councillor? And was the person reporting this matter aggrieved because the response to his challenge of the pair was met with a vicious raised finger?
No, as you were, I'm probably I'm taking this a guess too far.

"I make no apology, least of all to any offenders, for responding seriously to an incident like this" ..

So, tell me Supt Thompson, just precisely how many Council Tip workers has your Farce arrested in the last 12 months for the same offence ? ...

And don't tell me it doesn't happen .. because I've seen them descend on items which they perceive as being of "value" like a flock of vultures ..

@Cap'n Haddock: Take something to the Council tip that the 'vultures' think may be valuable to them and you can be, as has happened to me, be directed to put the item in a place where they can examine it at their leisure. No, they can't be bothered to take it off you: it's your job to lug the item to the place directed. So, I am here to do your bidding, hey Mr Tip-Worker?

Mind you, I did see red a little when one tip worker started going through some things I was throwing away from my recently-deceased mother's flat. Of course, she didn't need them and I was throwing them away, but his haste to rifle through it was something to be seen...

  7. nope all police officers seem determined to 'attend' to crime in the most odd circumstances of encouragement. So yes if it involves using 'toys' ie guns, fast cars, super duper computers or some other si-fi CSI technology then expect every copper and their munchkin friends to come running. However if you give them hard evidence on a plate and it is not targeted this month or does not involve a fashionable waste of tax payers money I expect you to be a man, falsely accused of rape who's assailant is given every opportunity to do it again and again and again. Or perhaps any other person wondering why the plod will happily stuff doughnuts into their face while the local yoof knock shit out of you granny while your on the phone to them asking for help.

    Vocation vs pension, simples

@ Tip of the day ...

    Yep .. I've seen that too ..

Which is why, these days, whenever I take something to the dump, I always ensure its well & truly "cattle-trucked" (even if it means taking a club hammer to it at home)..

Why should Council workers (already being paid for by my Council Tax) be free to sell property on & thus line their own pockets ?

  12. This story made my day! I don't read the papers, I rely on Julia to find the good bits for me. :-)

  13. My only comments are that whoever attended would have been sent by the Police control room. (What was reported to be happening?)
The local dump is protected by more barbed wire and security cameras than Buckingham Palace. Just what are they hiding in there, - nuclear waste?

  14. Would that be the control room full of civilians reading from scripts without any experience of 24/7 policing except what they hear through their headsets.

Gone are the days of control rooms entirely staffed by real police with many years of experience and local knowledge and also common sense.

  15. "...whatever happened to Everyone's right to fair trial by jury ?"

Slowly being dismantled, bit by bit...

"...unless the councils "own" our rubbish as well."

If that were true, they'd pay us for it, not the other way around.

"...but his haste to rifle through it was something to be seen..."

    !!!

"Gone are the days of control rooms entirely staffed by real police with many years of experience and local knowledge and also common sense."

    Sadly true.

  16. The really strange thing is, this is the same police force that delivered a KFC meal to a criminal who'd climbed onto a roof.

  17. Private Eye's parody police log strikes again.

Anyway, call me cynical but had there been a bunch of pikeys doing the same thing would there even have been a response, let alone the "air strike"?
