"I think he did it to draw attention to the injustice of his situation."So speaks Central Hampshire deputy coroner Simon Burge.
So, what was this 'injustice' that allegedly drove someone to take a chainsaw to his own head?
The hearing heard that the block where Mr Phyall had his flat was to be demolished...Terrible! To throw a man out on the streets and leave him to...
Oh:
...and despite great efforts from his housing association, he had refused 11 offers of alternative accommodation.I really don't think First Wessex Housing Group deserve that slur, Simon. You just can't help some people.
They certainly do not deserve it. First Wessex are one of the better ones.
ReplyDeletePoor bastard, he shouldn't have been living alone if he was that mad. certainly NOT the HA's fault by any means. Dreadful story and one can only feel for the elderly parents let alone the police officer(S) and paramedics etc that had to deal with the scene and everything else.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, just like the selfish bastards who throw themselves in front of Trains, or jump off Motorway bridges, no thought for the poor sods who have to clean up their mess ..

ReplyDeleteIndeed!
The following is an old Darwin award I had a rummage for on the interweb;
ReplyDeletePolish farmer Krystof Azninski, who staked a strong claim to being Europe's most macho man by cutting off his own head in 1995. Azninski, 30, had been drinking with friends when it was suggested they strip naked and play some "men's games". Initially they hit each other over the head with frozen turnips, but then one man upped the ante by seizing a chainsaw and cutting off the end of his foot. Not to be outdone, Azninski grabbed the saw and, shouting "Watch this then," he swung at his own head and chopped it off.
Its amazing how far people will go to prove a point!
@ phiangle ..
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of the old joke about the Englishman, Irishman & Scotsman who were captured by Red Indians ..
When they were hauled, bound hand & foot before the Chief ..
He said "Huh, Englishman have good skin, I use for war canoe" ..
He then looked at the Scotsman & said "Maybe I use him too, make bigger canoe" ..
Meanwhile, Paddy, who had managed to wriggle out of his bonds, grabs a knife from one of the Braves .. and begins to stab himself repeatedly, whilst yelling .. "Yer not usin' me fer a fecking' canoe" ..
First Wessex are enough to make anyone cut their own head off. Their attitude towards some of their tenants 'is tough we are not listening and do not care'
ReplyDeleteThey do not carry out repairs they do not acknowledged complaints even through solicitors when they do send someone to carry out repairs they are carried out badly and generally by someone who is rude and abusive. I have outstanding repairs from over 9 years ago.
Also at times when I have phoned them they have spoken to me in an appalling manner and.
There was a time in the passed when I was raising my daughter and trying to get First Wessex to do what is expected of them as landlords left me very upset and at times distraught mine and my daughters lives have been over shadowed by outstanding issues with them. Here's a thought maybe they should have reassured the guy who clearly had a mental illness that they cared about his need for his familiar surroundings and reassured him that he was important.
After all First Wessex make it their business to know all the facts about their tenants inc criminal records and mental illness tenants do not have a say in this and if tenants request to see the information held then they have to pay for the information.First Wessex hold this information in order to apparently provide a better service and protect themselves and contractors.
Someone new the trouble he was having accepting the changes put to him. If he was unwell enough to cut his own head off the he was top end of the scale 'mental' he would have had history of mental illness and would have been on First Wessex radar. I willing to bet that on the lead up to him taking his life he made several calls out of desperation to First Wessex possibly irrational and lacking in tact after all he was about to loose his home (its a big deal). Obviously it is not one persons fault it was the fault of anyone who new he'd lost the plot, the tenant had free will but the idea of losing his home MAY have pushed him over the edge he needed to be hospitalized. If you think FW are a great landlord you obviously have not had the pleasure of logging a complaint with them yet, but you will!
