I Thought This Wasn't Possible?

Defending James, Mr Gordon Ross said the couple were both alcoholics and each had previous convictions for violence.

Mr Ross said: “It seems to be a feature of their relationship that they were drinking partners. He has been an alcohol dependent for 20 years.

"He comes from a very good family. His father is a quantity surveyor who has two other sons with no problems.

“He drinks huge amounts of alcohol. For the last four years he has been on income benefits registered as an alcoholic…”
Huh..? I thought we were always told that was an urban myth?

"He comes from a very good family. His father is a quantity surveyor who has two other sons with no problems" ...

I always have to laugh when I read a statement like that ..

Piers Shore's father was an MP (Peter Shore) but he still killed himself through his pernicious drug abuse ..

Jack Straw's son got nicked for a drug related matter ..

Blair's son got nicked for a drunken offence

(notice a pattern developing here) ?

WTF relevance is it what someone's father does for a living ?

And would it even merit a mention if the father of the accused was, for example a Plumber .. or a Bus driver ?

I thought not, even though they're more than capable of being "very good families" too ..

I think you'll find that the same applies to Druggies, Julia ..

Where the scum are registered as being "disabled" ..

I'd happily disable the lot of 'em .. permanently, with a 9 mm pistol ..

  3. If I had a £ for every person I nicked who gave their employment status as "on the sick mate" after I had chased them or had a fight with them,I would be a rich man.
    Jaded.

  4. And, as one commenter says, if he's been more or less permanently pissed for twenty years, how has he managed to obtain and keep a driving licence? Or was he driving without one?

  5. As Dumbjon says, if a Lefty calls vampires "a myth", get a decent supply of sharp stakes in.

  6. TBH, it just looks like the guy's real disease is being a lifelong asshole and the alcohol is the only positive influence on his miserable life.

I prefer psychopaths like him drunk and stupefied playing with his 'peers' instead of sober enough to be a real pain in the neck.

    -------------

As a sidenote: real alcoholics are very sick people and in no way able to work once they start losing either enough liver or brain tissue. I've lost a few friends like that, and the tragedy is that those folks actually don't really get 'drunk' -- they carefully titrate their intake and over time manage to get used to 1-2 bottles of spirit a day. Unless you smell their breath, you'll not notice anything because they don't look or act like drunks at all.

Most of those guys beaver away in life unnoticed and without harming anyone but themselves, and by the time you see the symptoms, the alk has literally eaten them from the inside.

I don't know of anyone who has ever managed to recover from this stage btw.

  7. Hexe, you just described me. A litre and a half of scotch a day everyday. My motto was the same as Winston Churchil'ls (it seems): "NEVER KNOWING SOBER BUT RARELY PISSED! We'd been married over a year before my wife actually experienced me sober.

My liver started to die and I managed to stop....just before it was too late.

  8. One night I came home sober and the dog bit me.....

Beats me. I can never see what relevance how much their house is worth either, yet that's one pointless fact that's often slipped into news stories.

"If I had a £ for every person I nicked who gave their employment status as "on the sick mate" after I had chased them or had a fight with them,I would be a rich man."

If they're strong enough to run or fight, they're strong enough to work!

"...they carefully titrate their intake and over time manage to get used to 1-2 bottles of spirit a day."

I don't know how anyone could afford that, never mind actually consume it!

  10. Julia, the alcohol tends to replace most of the food for those guys and it's actually cheaper than cooking and buying food for a single man. (plus it's no hassle and no mess...)

Bottle of Schnaps or cheap Vodka in Lidl is less than 10 quid but if you're really broke, you buy an automatic still: http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Still_Spirits_Air_Still.html
2 hours to make a 1 litre bottle... keep a couple of 30 litre buckets where you ferment Turbo yeast (produces 23% alcohol!) with sugar and you're sorted, it's easy to lay down a few carboys full of ready to distill liquoir. Cost per bottle probably around a quid or maybe two.

Other sources of cheap alcohol are of course stuff like wines from tinned fruit (10 tins and 5kg sugar make 5 gallon of 14% hooch in 14 days) and if you're feeling 'rich' and lazy, Muntons does an acceptable winekit for 17 quid for 30 bottles of wine.

  11. Hex is right. One of the symptoms of the professional alcoholic is not being able to eat. Or rather you eat then vomit so in the end you give it up as a waste of time and get all the calories and vitamins the body needs from alcohol.

Most supermarkets do a cheap 'whiskey' (aged in a plastic bucket for at least a whole week in a basement in Glasgow so it qualifies as 'Scotch') for £15-16
