I Think I Know Why...

...this 'Mail' story says:
'We're sorry but reader comments are currently unavailable.'

It's because most of them would be some variation on 'PULL THE TRIGGER NOW!'...

  3. "The spokesman at first denied that a gun had been drawn on the boy but later admitted"

Yep, that about sums up the Farce.

Point guns at kids but cower while rioters beat a man to death.

Bravery commendations and medals all round I think.

  5. Yup. You're right there but "they" don't want to know the truth, "they" don't want to know what we think. Our opinions are populist, we are the mob calling for unreasonable sentences like hanging child murders, when they should be coddled and not called "inmates" and be treated with respect.

Me too...every single fucking day I am reminded of some quote or the other from that film.

"No, what you have are bullets..." springs to mind today.

  9. That is one very silly .. but very lucky little bastard ..

Silly because, given recent events only a complete moron goes around in public with a BB gun on their person ..

Lucky because in many other European countries, having had the same amount of trouble involving youths .. its highly likely that he would have been shot first & then asked questions ..

The fact that, legally he's a child matters not .. Had the gun been real, the effect from it being fired would have been the same as if he'd been 75 ..

    "

True of course...IF there was a BB gun at all and it wasn't just a tube of polo mints.

Don't tell me you still believe the Farce's account of any 'armed' incident? Even their own Mouth piece ended up admitting he'd lied.

Think you might have spent too long in Crown Forces Capt'. Policemen aren't soldiers, you can't expect them to give clear, simple, concise and honest accounts of their actions. Just reading Jaded's posts should tell you that.

    I suspect you're right there mate ..

Though even I give up, when there are mongs like this in the Armed Forces ..

  12. "Theatre"

Says the man who nearly got shot by armed policey men for the heinous crime of 'driving a white transit with intent...of sticking his elbow out the window'.

    :P

There was a time when, to my certain knowledge, the coppers would have just called the MP's and handed that particular retard over to them.

    And mine too ..

The resulting interview (sans coffee) with the RSM would have been far harder than anything a civvy court could have imposed ..

  15. "than anything a civvy court could have imposed .."

and probably would have 'worked' too. Remanding him in custody won't make him feel a sense of disgrace.

  16. @SBC,
Y'know, the odd thing is, until you said that, I hadn't thought about guns as things to shoot with.

And I'm not entirely wrong there. 99.5% of the time, a gun is used as a potent symbol. As such, they work very well, (On both sides).

The best way to win any fight, is to convince the other guy that he would lose. That's the way most animals do it.

The problem with humans is, "Equality". The pecking order is constantly getting challenged by immature males. And they succeed often enough to continue doing it.

I don't know what the solution is.

  18. And since when was being in possession of a BB gun, in a backpack, and not being waved around in a threatening manner, an arrestable offence?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Budvar,
I doubt if they'd arrest you, but if you're stopped/searched by the police and the BB gun appears realistic I'd guess the VCRA would apply - so be ready to backup your 'reasonable excuse'; and probably a good idea to have the BB gun not immediately useable, and wrapped in such a way that it is not available for quick access.

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/contents

    Notes to section 41
"This section amends the Firearms Act 1968 to increase from 6 months to 12 months the maximum custodial sentence for the offence of carrying an imitation firearm in public without reasonable excuse."

And as the Act defines imitations:
"38 Meaning of “realistic imitation firearm”

(1)In sections 36 and 37 “realistic imitation firearm” means an imitation firearm which—(a)has an appearance that is so realistic as to make it indistinguishable, for all practical purposes, from a real firearm; and(b)is neither a de-activated firearm nor itself an antique.

(2)For the purposes of this section, an imitation firearm is not (except by virtue of subsection (3)(b)) to be regarded as distinguishable from a real firearm for any practical purpose if it could be so distinguished only—(a)by an expert;(b)on a close examination; or(c)as a result of an attempt to load or to fire it.

(3)In determining for the purposes of this section whether an imitation firearm is distinguishable from a real firearm—(a)the matters that must be taken into account include any differences between the size, shape and principal colour of the imitation firearm and the size, shape and colour in which the real firearm is manufactured; and(b)the imitation is to be regarded as distinguishable if its size, shape or principal colour is unrealistic for a real firearm."

  20. I think this is that completely useless piece of legislation that has anything gun shaped (even if it's made of licorice) has to be painted lime green or fluorecent orange to differentiate it from being a real firearm.

I mean, it isn't like I couldn't paint my fully locked and loaded desert eagle .50cal some silly colour or anything is it?

  21. "I mean, it isn't like I couldn't paint my fully locked and loaded desert eagle .50cal some silly colour or anything is it?"

For some reason that conjures up mental images of those Sobraine Cocktail ciggies of my 80's youth....except as ammo. Teflon coated 'cop-killers' in bright neon colours.

"Hmmm, today Mr Pink shall get to play"

It's late. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

  22. The replica involved was probably a BB gun. We were told these would not be on sale years ago. I have a (legal) CO2 air pistol that fires 8 rounds of lead with no reloading that looks like my old police automatic. Bit of fun in my long back garden (pressure from grandson). Very dangerous toys - why haven't we banned them entirely? Teachers say they are turning up at school.

    ReplyDelete
  23. OP said it was a BB gun.

"Very dangerous toys - why haven't we banned them entirely?".

Hope you're not being serious? Life has an element of danger, by the time the "Bansterbaters" have finished we'll only be allowed to eat with a plastic spoon and off of paper plates.

  24. Oh, for someone with a handily inflated paper bag and a wicked sense of humour standing nearby. You'd think the dry cleaners would at least spot the business opportunity of a couple of extra pairs of trousers with some marks to get out.

Heh! Truly 'The Golden Shot' :)

"Comments are available (albeit moderated) for me."

Still off for me. Maybe it's browser-related?

"Point guns at kids but cower while rioters beat a man to death."

Kids with a gun are still lethal. But yes, a bit more of this on the first night of rioting would have been good.

"That is one very silly .. but very lucky little bastard..."

Do you think he learned anything, or is he already on the phone to a state-paid lawyer for comp-en-say-shun?

  26. "Though even I give up, when there are mongs like this in the Armed Forces .."

I agree with SBC - let the Army have him. They haven't gone soft, yes.

"I mean, it isn't like I couldn't paint my fully locked and loaded desert eagle .50cal some silly colour or anything is it?"

As indeed happens - in reverse - with those brightly coloured starting pistols once they have been converted to fire live ammo.

"Very dangerous toys - why haven't we banned them entirely? Teachers say they are turning up at school."

Because it would be pointless? We banned real guns, and all it did was disarm US...

"Oh, for someone with a handily inflated paper bag and a wicked sense of humour standing nearby."

  27. On the subject of Policeymen and their firearms: http://ogdaa.blogspot.com/2011/08/i-know-brits-are-unfamiliar-with.html

  28. Apparently they found a "replica" firearm or more appropriately a replica of a firearm. Only a moron would mess about with a replica gun in public after days of rioting!

    ReplyDelete
  29. OP said "Someone reported seeing a gun being passed". Not quite the same thing as messing about with it is it?

Care to define a "Replica"? My definition is "A look-a-like".

This is a slippery slope, only recently a farmer round here, shooting his licensed shotgun on *HIS* land was surrounded by armed police, after a tip off by a concerned member of the public.

Now considering the hoops we have to jump through with gun licensing, it isn't as if police don't know who is licensed, at what address and know our contact details.

How difficult would it be to cross reference a report of "Man seen with gun in the grounds of "Budvar Towers", with do we have a record of licensed guns at Budvar Towers? If yes a call using the freely available contact number (they have on record) for a discrete enquiry as to whether or not I'm out doing a spot of vermin clearence? If yes, would it be ok to send around the local PC to for a statement to the fact?

But no, knowing all this, they turn up mob handed with an ARU, and surround the guy on the floor with machine guns.

    ReplyDelete
  30. True or not I don't know. but I was once told that if you report someone breaking into your property and they tell you "They haven't the resources at present and will be round in a couple of hours."

Just mention you might have seen a gun , they'll be there in a flash.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Pavlov's cat, I seem to recall someone actually did try that once and was nicked for wasting police time. The line was that it means they assign a higher priority than the incident deserves (according to them, of course, though there might be something in it). Now if you told them that you thought the intruder had a gun... well, that's just an honest mistake, isn't it? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ooops, misread you, PC. Thought you were saying to tell plod that you've got a gun. My mistake.
