When you keep a placesaver for your text, remember to remove it before hitting ‘Publish’:

After all, you managed to do that in the actual story, although you sadly didn’t manage to put anything in to replace it…

  1. Etaoin Shrdlu would never have stood for this; he must be spinning in his grave.

Did you know, incidentally, that you can get a Lorem Ipsum generator add-in for Firefox? Whatever next?

  2. Here's an example of people in the news business not noticing what they publish.

At a pre-season photo call for a local football team, the snapper had the team in the usual line-up in their clean new playing kit. You know, the sort of optimistic 'we ought to do well this season' look on their faces.

A group of painters working on sprucing up the football club's ageing main stand asked if they could be in the picture as they always wanted to be in a team picture. They'd like to have one and they'd buy a copy each, of course. As the players didn't object the half dozen blokes aged between 20 and 60, in their paint splattered white overalls, took their place at the side and front, arms folded and kneeling in the same way.

Picture taken. The painters went back to work, the players went off to play golf or whatever they wanted.

In the harassed news room later on a sub-editor went through the negatives and saw one with more people in it. Probably the youth team joining in, the weary hack thought. Better publish that one.

And so, in the next edition of the paper, there was a fine full colour picture of players and painters, ready for the season ahead.
