As Southcoates Lane bustled into life, people living in the street woke up to the discovery that a baby had been abandoned in her pram on their doorsteps. It is, it is indeed.
Sheila Brown, 59, was in bed when the police knocked on her door at 8am.
She said: "Police said a baby girl had been found in the street and asked me if I had heard anything.
"I hadn't heard anything and I just couldn't believe what had happened. It's just horrible to think about."
Bad Response:
One had heard a packet of cigarettes was found in the pram and asked: "Who would leave their cigarettes behind? It indicates they may have left in a hurry."*boggle*
It's obviously a traditional gift for the kind person who will raise the child. More valuable than a piece of silver.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe it's to give to the sprog when older, to remember his mum by?
I hope we're all gonna take this seriously?
"Who would leave their cigarettes behind ? " ..
ReplyDeleteAt one time it was Gold, Frankincense & Myrrh .. but with the extortionate tax levied on tobacco by government, its become 20 B&H .. ;)
(sorry Zaph .. just couldn't resist it) ...
Zaphod/Capt. H, what a pity they aren't doing those obscure ads any more - the ones where, as Ben Elton says, 'a picture of a lizard basking on a rock is supposed to have you gasping for a fag' - there's a whole load of 'Adoration of the Magi' pictures out there to adapt just in time for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering whether it's an indication of how absent-minded the mother must be:
"Did you get the fags, love?"
"Yeah...Oh b****er, I must have left them somewhere. There's something else I've forgotten too; can't quite think what, though...."
oooh I see...the story is from Hull.
ReplyDeleteSay no more....don't they still sacrifice Babies to Dagon up that way?

I don't think Lady Prescott would give a sh1t one way or the other, as long as she gets her hair done .. ;)
"Who would leave their cigarettes behind? It indicates they may have left in a hurry."
ReplyDeleteNot at all. The owner of the fags had clearly (and finally) seen the light and, thanks to the power of the NHS and the nagging of the righteous, had given up the weed.
The baby? Oh well, our new socialist order will take care of the bairn. Let's jus be thankful we have saved another soul the curse of twenty a day.
Anyone checked the baby for a nicotine patch?

ReplyDeleteWhile "Lord" Prescott would probably eat it as a mid-morning snack.

ReplyDeleteLOL!

My mother once left me in my pram outside the shops. It was an accident, or so she claims...

This could be a wonderful advert for them!
