A mass brawl involving 50 people erupted in a street after a christening party at the Burnley Miners' Club, a court heard. You may need a pen and paper to unravel the familial relationships…
The baby's grandad Darren Raw was left injured and covered in blood outside after he was attacked by the infant's dad, uncle and his other grandad. And the father (assuming we’re talking about the singular)?
The child's father, Jonathan Royal, 18, who had been refusing to hand the child over to his mother Charlotte, also hit female victim Mary Smith in the doorway. No going mano-a-mano (even in numbers) for him!
What a catch you’ve got there, love…
Michael Royal, 41, of Cleaver Street, his son, Paul Royal, 22, of Clifton Square and Jonathan Royal, of Brent Street, all Burnley, had all been convicted, after a trial, of assault by beating and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, on May 8.And the punishments?
Jonathan Royal, who was also found guilty of a second assault allegation, had got involved in another brawl while on bail and had admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour in relation to that.
He received a community order, with 18 months supervision and the Controlling Anger and Learning to Manage it (CALM) programme.*sigh*
Michael Royal was given a three month, Saturday and Sunday curfew, between 7pm and 7am.
Paul Royal received a community order with 100 hours unpaid work. All three must pay £100 compensation each and Michael and Paul Royal, who are both employed, were told to pay £300 each in costs.
Jonathan Royal has to pay £100 costs.Best hollow chuckle of the whole sorry story was the touching faith in humanity of the bench:
Sentencing, bench chairman John Picton said Michael Royal, as the father of the two other defendants, must be embarrassed by his actions. You really think anything embarrasses these people? Really?
And what is it with christenings?
"And what is it with christenings?"
ReplyDeleteGood job it was not a funeral as someone could have ended up dead.
This is one where the social workers should step in immediately. They won't.
ReplyDeleteI thought young people courting meant something different.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it was a right "Royal" bundle .. :)
ReplyDelete"This is one where the social workers should step in immediately. They won't" ...
What .. and deny the infant its yuman right of eventually qualifiying for an ASBO or criminal record ? ..
Bit harsh, WOAR .. ;)
Jonathan Royal was also tangentially involved in the case of Wayne Lord who has an asbo.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.clicklancashire.com/news/local-news/1210308-two-year-asbo-for-burnley-teen.html
A teenager who caused a nuisance in Burnley has been given a two year ASBO. Wayne Lord, 18, of Sedburgh St, Burnley had the two-year order granted against him at Burnley Pendle and Rossendale Magistrates Court. The action followed months of evidence gathering by Burnley Community Safety Partnership about repeated anti-social behaviour in the Kibble Bank estate of Burnley, including verbally abusing residents, drinking, intimidation and damage.......He must not cause harassment, alarm or distress to anyone in the Burnley area and must not use abusive or threatening language including hand gestures towards anyone in Burnley. And Lord must not associate with Cory White, 17, or Jonathan Royal, 18 in the Burnley area.
The police are quoted in that one so they are probably only too wearily aware of the Jonathan Royal and his family.
Oops, sorry Captain - I was trying to keep the kid alive long enough to collect either. But it's not looking good.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally:
Mr Raw was hit in the face, fell to the ground and his head was kicked and stamped on.
I don't call that assault by beating and using threatening, abusive or insulting words. I call that GBH or perhaps attempted murder. I call that the CPS not using the charges they could. I realize it is hard to establish mens rea, but they should be trying.
They're obviously a family of losers.
ReplyDeleteJeremy Kyle would have paid good money for that.
'I realize it is hard to establish mens rea,'
ReplyDeleteWOAR, one might argue that it's going to be hard to establish any sort of mind at all among this lot....
"one might argue that it's going to be hard to establish any sort of mind at all among this lot...."
ReplyDeleteHow about "biasmotropic" as a neologism?
Mutter, ellipsis, mutter.
"Good job it was not a funeral as someone could have ended up dead."
ReplyDeleteLOL!
"This is one where the social workers should step in immediately. They won't."
No, they won't. But then, early intervention isn't the magic bullet the progressives will tell us it is anyway...
"I thought young people courting meant something different."
:D
"I don't call that assault by beating and using threatening, abusive or insulting words. I call that GBH or perhaps attempted murder."
Me too :(
