These ‘Exceptional Circumstances’ Really Aren’t…

A woman used by Hampshire police to spearhead an honour-based violence campaign but jailed after making up a story she had been gang-raped had her prison sentence cut by appeal judges.
Oh, really? And why?
Court of Appeal judges in London said the sentence was too long and cut it to two years due to “exceptional circumstances”.
These being…. Wait, go get some popcorn first!

*waits*

OK, ready? Here we go…
However, her lawyers argued her personal circumstances as a single mother with four failed marriages behind her, meant the sentence should be lesser.
Yup, she’s crap at personal relationships, so we’ll let her off! You couldn’t make it up!
Giving the judgement, Mr Justice Mackay said Ali’s groundless accusation against three named men had left them in “the gravest jeopardy”, facing possible five-year jail terms.

But he said Ali’s “social position” and “personal family mitigation” allowed the judges to cut her total sentence to two years, of which she will serve half before release on licence.
Her ‘social position’..?

WTF is that supposed to mean?

  1. Another one to add to the list of excuses should I ever find myself up in front of the beak.

Given that I can already use being bullied, being smacked and being a summer baby I seem spoilt for choice.

  4. When I was in the former Yugoslavia during the civil war, I had a card which said that I was a NATO Peacekeeper and that the local police were not allowed to arrest me.

Some races in the UK seem to be in an analogous position.

I think it probably means she's a cheap slag.
