A Leicester City Council driver has been sacked after crashing eight times in a year – leaving the authority with a £20,000 bill.
No, leaving the
taxpayer with a £20,000 bill…
On one occasion he collided with a cyclist, leaving the council with an estimated bill of £2,000.
On another occasion he pulled out from a side road and hit a car with two occupants, shunting it into a parked vehicle.
/facepalm
Five other incidents – understood to be minor shunts with posts and gates – each caused damage of up to £1,000. An eighth accident was found not to have been his fault.
In anything other than a public sector post, he wouldn’t have been
around for the last few…

ReplyDeleteMaybe not now, but I remember working for a firm in the 80s where the sales reps damaged their cars with astonishing frequency; somehow the fact that it was a company vehicle seemed to mean it didn't count as an accident.
In fact, one of the reps described himself as an excellent driver because he had never crashed a car he owned.
Interesting how the report doesn't name him.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that he is not taking the council to a tribunal for unfair dismissal. Perhaps I am being premature and he will. Regardless of the facts of the matter his chances of winning such an action are considerable. The cost to him nil the cost to the council/taxpayer high. What a wonderful social democratic world we live in, where else can you watch the amazing spectacle of the economic and social decline of a nation all from the comfort of your armchair in front of the TV or computer.

ReplyDeleteYou might say that he collided with his own post at last...
Whilst on the subject of driving & accidents Julia ..
ReplyDeleteDo you recall a recent post about a Latvian driver, involved in a hit & run accident in Lincolnshire ?
Is this the same bloke ?

I wondered where Charlie Caroli and his car went?
ReplyDeleteCurmudgeon spotted it too. What are we calling this? Driver of no appearance? Council employee of no appearance?
ReplyDeleteInteresting how the report doesn't name him.
ReplyDeleteThe name could be a give away - MONN?
"In fact, one of the reps described himself as an excellent driver because he had never crashed a car he owned."
ReplyDeleteClearly an important distinction for him!
"Interesting how the report doesn't name him."
We can't know those sorts of details, we aren't important enough. We just pay his wages.

Indeed!
"Is this the same bloke ?"
Good grief! I'd hope not...
