A Word Of Advice, Marilyn Hampton…

…make sure lamb’s off the menu!
Headteacher Marilyn Hampton said she hoped the food grown in the allotments could be used for school dinners and they could also start a swap shop where parents and residents could swap other vegetables for produce grown in the garden.

She said: “The children are really excited about it. This really is one of the first times I have seen a school community really come together to work on a project. It is something all the classes in the school will work on.

“The children will have lots of jobs, from feeding the animals to watering the plants.

“It’s all about them taking responsibility for something and knowing it is theirs and they have worked hard for it.”
And being prepared to duck the inevitable flack from the loonies among the parents…

  1. 'Pupils to grow their own school dinners'

Vegetables and chicken I can understand, but alpacas? Or does it mean they'll be weaving their own school uniforms too?

Anyway, best of luck to Ms Hampton - I hope she knows what she's letting herself in for!

  2. Good to see a school involving itself in producing healthy vegetables. Whatever grows on the allotment will probably be good as well.

  4. Surely H&S will put pay to this project there is bound to be some rule that a nice interfering busybody parent can find to put a stop to it. Teaching children things like vegetables come from the ground and are not found only in supermarkets cannot be tolerated. Exposing children to the real world they will grow up with mental scars. Whatever next teachers will be telling kids that Tories do not eat babies. Oh I forgot the ever so fair minded teachers unions would never allow that to happen.

  5. Nice idea & no doubt done with the best of intentions .. but I fear it will end in tears ..

If the H&S mob don't intervene, then the HMCR mob almost certainly will .. not to mention the RSPCA getting their two penn'orth in ..

And as already mentioned by Anti, the teaching unions & politicians of a certain leaning will be frothing at the mouth, at the very notion of kids being taught independence from the public teat ..

And all that's before even considering the unwelcome nocturnal interventions of "Stabby McChav" & his ilk ..

  7. Our local primary grew its own veg BUT the contract caterers were not willing to risk it - far safer to use anonymous produce from the wholesaler!
