We seem to have a terribly confused attitude to rape in this country.Do we?
It seems so, according to La Bindel anyway, who trots out the usual statistics that get refuted time and time again, and which she never bothers to change…
Then there is the impression, thanks to the extensive media coverage of such cases, that we are more concerned about women making "false allegations" of rape than of convicting actual rapists.Should we not be concerned about that, then? What about that ‘Better a hundred guilty men go free than one innocent man be imprisoned’, then?
But it seems what piqued her ire was the news that Australia is sending us a convicted rapist, and people are up in arms about it, when they shouldn’t be, becau…
Wait. What?
So it jars that such a fuss is made in certain quarters at the thought that an actual convicted rapist – quite a rare breed – is being deported from Australia to Britain. Leslie Cunliffe, who emigrated from Britain in 1967, kidnapped, gagged, blindfolded and bound his victim before strapping a fake bomb to her body and raping her in 1999. For this he spent 12 years in prison in Australia for the rape. Now he has lost an appeal against the Australian department of immigration decision that he should be deported and has been placed in a detention unit. You’d think someone like La Bindel would be there – in spirit at least – with the ‘Keep ‘im there’ crowd, wouldn’t you?
Nimbyism (the attitude of "not in my back yard") is pretty unpleasant, particularly when it applies to those who do harm to others. I don't want to impose a rapist on the women and children of any country – I want them to be stopped from doing it again, and more importantly, from committing such acts in the first place.Well, since that bird has flown, sweetie…
Britain has a terrible track record in dealing with rape, so the idea of us becoming irate about Australia sending Cunliffe back is risible: none of us should lose sleep over his return to the UK. There are thousands of rapists walking free in this country who may never come on to the radar.THOUSANDS…OF….RAPISTS! Good grief, if we believed that, we women would never leave our front doorsteps.
I hope she doesn't read Man Widdecombe's blog...
Just as I was giving up on you this gem! I contacted a few constabularies under FOI and a minima of 10% are "no crimed" OR "perjury". Yet there are no punitive sentences for mendacious accusers. The Arizona Law - make a false rape claim and spend 10 years inside. Or am I subconsciously phallocentrically oppressing Bindel?
ReplyDelete"thousands of rapists"? Try millions according to the feminazis and their shock-troops the social workers.
ReplyDeleteEvery man in this country is a wanna-be vicious, violent rapist and pedophile according to those paragons of virtue. Have a look at the stats from the family courts, over eighty percent of contested custody cases result in an accusation of violence and/or pedophilia against the father (well you get the sympathy, quicker housing and get to score some points don't you?)..
Amazingly, since each man is seen as guilty until proven innocent in the family court (as we know women never lie), so far not one man has been charged with either crime after an exhaustive investigation by childrens services and the police (been there done it, hours in the cells, house trashed whilst searched - all based on a vindictive and provably false accusation).
How many women have faced censure for their malicious and damaging allegations? None (after all they are in a stressful situation arranging to take all the mans earnings and property and preventing contact with their children, just to score some points, excuses this sort of action if you're a women).
Yes, I've been through the wringer - does it show ;-)
I'd support all these demands for female equality if it was for equality of treatment and not for outcome. That and if the hypocrites like Mz Bindel stopped and actually treated women as fallible (instead of both superior and more in need of help !?!) - I won't hold my breath though.
Sorry for the rant!
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with us accepting back scum like this into our country (assuming he was immediately locked up) on condition that we get to send back all the rapists, murderers, thieves, pedophiles, etc. that every other country in the world seems to specialise in exporting to us.
As an aside, did you know that Ireland has one of the lowest mental health rates in Europe? Why? Because after about six-months they export all their mentally ill here. I worked in a number of London teaching hospitals and each had a mental health unit with over 65% Irish patient lists.
Why is it only Aussi's who get to get rid of the scum?
Julia: I have considerable experience in this area of law and, unfortunately, I have seen many alleged rapes that had absolutely no basis in actual fact... Several were those very questionable incidents where the female was either in a relationship with the accused or was going out with him and, for whatever reason... asserted that she agreed to A but he wanted A and B, so that was rape. Technically, they may have been right, but the defence was able to undermine the victim, to such an extent that the case became untenable. What is, and is not rape, should be redefined as the present law is utter nonsense.
ReplyDeleteOthers were where the victim was either so drunk, or drugged out of her mind (or both) that they were not sure what had happened. Their witness statement read something like this... 'I had X drinks of Y before I went out for the night, then I had ABCDEFGHIJKLM, then NO and P. I can't remember very much after that but... and I woke up and...
They had absolutely no credibility in the court and, sad to say, whatever the truth of the matter, the Defendant was invariably found Not Guilty.
It is absolutely true that there is something very wrong with the matter of rape in this country, and very many rapes go unreported and... adding one more from Australia will make no difference.
That Bindel hag is a blithering idiot...
"There are thousands of rapists walking free in this country who may never come on to the radar".
ReplyDeleteYes Ms Bindel, but I don't think you will need to worry...unless specsavers goes bankrupt
There was someone who said all men are rapists and there was a rejoinder to that.
ReplyDeleteI do think that the area's becoming blurred because of differences of lifestyle these days, combined with the new yahooism.
Australia is the rape capital of the civilised world. Stranger rape is comparably low here. (Aco)
ReplyDelete"The Arizona Law - make a false rape claim and spend 10 years inside."
ReplyDeleteI think giving a proven perjurer the sentence the man (or a man) would have got if convicted would be a start...
"Have a look at the stats from the family courts, over eighty percent of contested custody cases result in an accusation of violence and/or pedophilia against the father..."
Those are probably the stats the feminazis are using!
"...on condition that we get to send back all the rapists, murderers, thieves, pedophiles, etc. that every other country in the world seems to specialise in exporting to us. "
If only :(
"What is, and is not rape, should be redefined as the present law is utter nonsense."
Agreed. But you'll never find a politician willing to take it on. Look how quickly the Cons dropped the 'give anonymity to me' pledge when they got it...
"I do think that the area's becoming blurred because of differences of lifestyle these days, combined with the new yahooism."
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. And for some, it's seen as a natural hazard of their chosen lifestyle...
"Australia is the rape capital of the civilised world. "
Really?
I`ve long thought that a person who makes a false accusation or bares false witness of any crime should suffer the same punishment as the crime in question carries.
ReplyDeleteseems fair to me.
Excellent blogge post. Drunken consent is no consent yet sound advice to young girls is always "If it has gotten to the foreplay stage and you are naked in bed together where do you think this will go?" I am annoyed at Retrospective Rape which our American cousins rightly term BUYERS REMORSE.
ReplyDeleteThousands of rapists walking free? Probably.
ReplyDeleteSome of them will be free after conviction and time inside, some of them will not even have had their crimes reported. Some will have been charged but got off - because it is a damn difficult crime to prove. Unfortunately (that is, I'd love it if there was fool-proof a way of determining the 'truth' of a rape allegation and the guilt of the accused. But there isn't.)
Of 30 million blokes in this country, that's not a huge %age.
