The Natural Progression From ‘Don’t Put Nice Things On Show’, Surely?

Criminals are targeting Asian households in the hope of stealing high-quality gold heirlooms. At least three family homes were broken into in Coulsdon within the space of a fortnight, with one losing a security box containing thousands of pounds-worth of jewellery which had been handed down through the family.
And the crime prevention advice? It’s the usual, just given a little twist!
One victim, whose home was "turned upside down" at the beginning of April, said he had been warned to "make it less obvious" the house was occupied by an Asian family.
The mind boggles, it really does…
He said: "An officer advised us that any sort of Asian artefacts should be covered or taken off the front door."
Well, that would make quite a lot of sense, and be in keeping with all those interminable posters and Tweets about ‘leaving valuables on show in your car’, wouldn’t it?

But for some reason, the police are very keen to row back from this advice:
A police spokesman said: "Our advice from the burglary squad is that all residents in the Coulsdon area need to be vigilant and take crime prevention precautions, not just Asian families."
He added that he could not confirm whether victims had been advised to hide cultural artefacts "as they will have come into contact with a number of different officers".
Strange. You’re usually so proud of telling people that if they have nice things, they shouldn’t show them off

Why the discrepancy?

    "Why the discrepancy? " ..

    Why indeed ? ..

Call me cynical .. But, I suspect it has something to do with that damned elephant in the room (or on the front door) again .. ;)

  2. Perhaps we should all hide the fact that we have the wherewithal to buy our own house and go and live in cardboard boxes?

And hide the fact that we work. And get rid of the nice cars and go around in stolen rotboxes.

It's all our fault for aspiring to nice things, the scrotes are blameless.

  3. John,

Don't you realise that it is your fault, by having something half decent you are inciting the scrotes. Further to this, it isn't theft it is direct action redistribution of wealth.

    Cheers,

Plod have a monopoly and won't take kindly to competition.

  7. Disenfranchised of Buckingham...Nah plod have to catch me first. I'm not some snot-nosed kid that doesn't know how it works and I've been taking notes for years. Plus, to look at me, you'd never believe me capable ;)

As for the other question...do your own googling you lazy sod.

  8. D of B - you mean the one who was found innocent?
'Beat the shit out of that 50 year old woman?' I love the bigoted interpretation of the leftie brigade. The truth should never get in the way of your agenda, should it?

"I love the bigoted interpretation of the leftie brigade."

Suspended from duty? Many plod in your position find basket weaving is simple enough to grasp and alleviates the boredom.

  10. Hi Bront. Jumping to conclusions again I see. Personally I haven't got the time of day for socialists or unions. Definitely not a leftie.

And Tatty, it was a rhetorical question. He got off on appeal, was fired and then reinstated.

The reason? She did it when she fell, honest. Sheash.

  11. These burglaries have been going on for years on my patch. It's an open secret that Asians are more likely to have gold in their house than other races.

Oh...I don't use a question mark as punctuation for those. Ah well.

  13. Its long past time that security became the key factor in both design and manufacture of new houses.
A persons home should be a their castle both metaphorically and literally.

  14. D of B - He took hold of a foul drunken woman and tried to push her into a cell. She resisted all the way. On reaching the cell she took hold of the door frame. He used force to pull her and as she lost her grip she flew into the cell bashing her head on the floor. He shouldn't have done it that way but there was no intent to injure her and he was quite rightly acquitted. You stated he 'beat the shit out of that 50 year old woman' Your comment was ignorant and bigoted. The sort of remark cretins like Ciaran Rehill come out with. I hope you are better than that.

Saw the video. If she was hanging on to the door frame, it was not obvious. I've not got a lot of sympathy for her, or the police sergeant who threw her into the cell, or the passive-aggressive WPC who watched the whole thing unfold while remaining at her desk, and then reported the sergeant for "abuse".

    Me too!

"It's all our fault for aspiring to nice things, the scrotes are blameless."

That does seem to be the rather bizarre message, doesn't it?

"Remind me what happened to the copper who beat the shit out of that 50 year old woman?"

If you mean the woman in the cells who got a hard shove, then I guess the term 'beat the shit out of' have been corrupted somewhat.

I didn't stub my toe on the hoover this morning, I beat the shit out of it...

"It's an open secret that Asians are more likely to have gold in their house than other races."

Indeed it is. So why should drawing attention to the risks inherent be backpedalled so quickly?
