I’m Sure It’s Just A Slip Of The Tongue…

A councillor has returned to Basildon after fleeing Kenya, where he is facing trial for fraud.
Daniel Munyambu, who was elected as Labour councillor for Vange last year, has gone on the run claiming he has been set up for a crime he didn’t commit back in his homeland.
His homeland?

Isn’t England his ‘homeland’ now?
Mr Munyambu believes a political speech he made nine days before his arrest, coupled with his political career in Basildon, may be the reason for a plot to destroy his credibility, using a former business dispute to bring charges.
He said: “You have to understand how things work in my country...”
Oh. Apparently not….

  1. Perhaps Essex police should visit him first to take a statement and collect some files. They might wish to check with the council and interview the gentleman in respect of any grants gained for Community Empowerment Project to satisfy themselves that any public money - if any was received - is traceable. Daniel Munyambu, who was voted in to the Vange seat in May 2011, is alleged to have forged receipts and obtained £18,000 under false pretences. Munyambu denies the offences, which are alleged to have taken place in Kenya.

He arrived in the UK in 2007 and was selected by Labour to fight the ward seat in 2011.

(I suppose somebody is going to shout raaaaycist if I question the wisdom of allowing non-nationals to hold political office in Britain?)

Nope, not me - clearly - because it isn't a race thing. Aussies, Kiwis and Saffas would be banned too. Therefore it is only racist to those idiots who can't understand the difference between race, nationality and (in many cases though probably not relevant here) religion.

But I'm not sure we can ban EU nationals from standing here. We certainly can't for the pointless EU Parliament.

  3. Many good white folk will be pleased Mr Munyambu did the honorable thing by making the trip back to Basildon and starting his car-boot business. Daniel has thus given many of us the chance to get our stuff back.

Not me! I was astonished to hear it was possible...

"But I'm not sure we can ban EU nationals from standing here. "

Probably not. Another bit of our self-determinism gone.

"Daniel has thus given many of us the chance to get our stuff back."

    SNORK!

No, Aussies, Kiwis, Saffas and Kenyans are all eligible to stand for local, EU and parliamentary elections as long as they are not in the UK illegally. If actually elected, but their visa expired halfway through the term without eligibility for renewal, I wonder whether they would be forced to quit.

  7. Dear Anonymous,

Please learn the difference between the verb forms "would be" and "are". It will help you when you grow up.
