Don’t Mention The W**...

York’s council leader has hit out at a “sick” slogan on a T-shirt on sale in a city centre shop.
Labour’s Coun James Alexander voiced his outrage on a social networking site over the shirt on sale at Blue Moon Trading in Goodramgate.
The clothing, made to resemble T-shirts sold by rock bands when on world tours, bares (sic *sigh*) the slogan: “Adolf Hitler tour of Europe”, underneath which it says destinations England and Russia have been “cancelled”, in reference to Hitler failed attempts to conquer both countries during the Second World War.
Heh! I quite like that. It’s clearly a t-shirt tweaking Hitler’s ambitions. Only a total idiot could fail to recognise that.

And that, it seems, is what we have here…
On his Twitter feed yesterday Coun Alexander branded the store “sick” and a “disgraceful shop” .
He said: “It gives a terrible impression, it’s not the tolerant and welcoming York I know.”
/facepalm
The shop, which sells guns, shooting accessories, and military memorabilia, is run by Stuart Sykes.
Mr Sykes said: “It’s been a saga for the last 12 months. “We have T-shirts from all sorts of wars, from World War Two to Vietnam.
If the councillor had the common sense to read the T-shirt, he’d see it’s not promoting Hitler – it is making fun of him.”
You could argue that if he had common sense, he’d not be a York councillor…
He rejected Coun Alexander’s comments that it gives a bad image of York.
He said: “We sell hundreds to tourists, they’re certainly the biggest buyers. I’d say I’ve sold 20 this week.”
So much for that! But the idiot isn’t daunted:
Coun Alexander responded by saying he will pursue the case further, although he has reported the shop numerous times before.
What’s that definition of insanity, again? Isn’t it doing the same thing over and over and hoping for a different response?

I mean, surely the police have got better things to do than…

Oh:
In 2010, police investigated complaints the shop was selling T- shirts emblazoned with the official Nazi state insignia.
*sigh*

People of York, you’ve only yourselves to blame; you voted this man in.

  1. I see. To prove that York is a tolerant place, things that Counciller Alexander doesn't approve of will be forbidden.

  2. As someone noted on the York website, this t-shirt has been going since the early 80's, hardly a new cutting edge item of fashion is it. Councillor Alexander believes in free speak, he approves of.

  3. Late 70s more like - it was advertised in NME when swastikas had a short-lived punk vogue

  4. Wild guess, but if it was Che, Uncle Joe or the Great Leader then whiny Councillor Alexander wouldn't bat a proverbial eyelid ?

So what? It is not an offence in Britain, unlike half of Europe.

    Or...ist it now?

  6. Stop the bigotry against Nazis!

Err oops, maybe not. Let's pretend that the national SOCIALIST german workers party never existed (nsdap). I refuse to dignify those sorts with capitals.

Yes, you see were (are?) two sorts of fuckwit socialists. There's the country and western kind. Oops wrong film agin (C & W copyright). Anyway, there is the internationalist kind (Uncle Joe, SWP etc and those nasty bastards) and the nationalist kind (Hitler, the bnp and those nasty bastards).

Cunts the fucking lot of them and that includes commies, nazis and council muppets.

  7. I don't want to see a ban on the sale of swastikas, both on free speech grounds and because personally I prefer to KNOW who the thick cunts are who wank off over pictures of adolf. If they wear some sort of badge they are a lot easier to spot.

BTW that Hitler Tour t shirt was on sale on Petticoat Lane in the late 70's early 80's. A quick glance at said t shirt would instantly show a person of average intellect that the shirt was taking the piss out of the nazis not praising them.

  8. To some, it does not appear to be so clear cut.

A couple of years back heer a sew on badge, that many wore, a Swastika with a red line through it, in a red circle, OBVIOUSLY meaning "verbotten", was banned due to the swastika.

It took the whole bloody legal apparatus from the country constitutional court, right through to the German constitutional court (highest instance), before SOMEONE had the good fucking common sense to see the complaint for the bollox it obviously was.

    The ban was lifted.

  10. I've got one of these! Does this mean I can expect the local branch of the Gestapo to be visiting soon?

  11. It's a very common T-shirt. One of my friends who is Jewish is proud to wear one. He's had it since the early 80's.

  13. So, in the Socialist Republic of York, images of mass murderers and terrorists (Stalin, Mao and Che) are OK if tyey are Left Wing politically but not if they are Right Wing politically. I think the Eqalities Commission should be told about this! Also I think Alexander should give up politics and go back to selling car insurance through Compare the Market.

    Makes perfect sense!

"Wild guess, but if it was Che, Uncle Joe or the Great Leader then whiny Councillor Alexander wouldn't bat a proverbial eyelid ?"

You might think that. I couldn't possibly comment... ;)

"If they wear some sort of badge they are a lot easier to spot. "

    Indeed!

    "Coun? Cllr, surely"

In most papers, yes. But the York Press is striking a blow for individuality.

Or perhaps the typesetter misspelled what the reporter actually put? ;)

  15. I'm sure it was in the 70's that a friend of mine had:

    Germany
    World Tour
    1939-1945

It was popular with roadies, as I recall.
