A series of late-night protests have been staged against a faith group's plan to convert a disused Scout hut in Leicester into a community centre.
Dozens of police have been stationed in Thurnby Lodge estate for the past few nights to oversee the peaceful demonstrations, which at their height have attracted up to 150 people.Hmm, what sort of ‘faith group’ are we talking about here?
Residents said they were angry the former Scout hut in Nursery Road looked likely to become a community centre operated by Islamic charity the As-Salaam Trust.Ah.
Maxine Williams, manager of the Stirrup Cup pub, has been taking part in the demonstrations. She said: "People are protesting because they feel that they have not been consulted and that the council has handed the keys to the Scout hut to As-Salaam.
"There is a lot of concern about the amount of traffic that it will bring and that people's peace will be shattered."Expect all those concerns to be overruled or branded ‘without foundation’…
And don't think you're safe because you don't live in Leicester:
The Muslim community of Herefordshire is raising money to establish the county’s first place of worship.
There is growing demand for a place of worship and the Muslim community says that it has outgrown a rented room at Hereford's Kindle Centre that is used for Friday prayer.First, maybe. Anyone bet on it being the last?

That looks like a worrying closeness between the cuncil (spelled wrong but left as is as appropriate) and that Islamic group.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with councils
is that they are never as accountable as they should be and Look at the Rochdale muslim nonce case where there is a very effective CYA going on
I believe that the the disaster of the single mayoral policy makes this lack of accountancy worse and further divorces resident from council and is made flesh in the person of 'Sir' Robin Wales Chief Pandjandrumn of the Benighted Borough of Newham. Lovely chappie.
It is suspicious in the Hereford case not only in the speed of the diversity officer statement but the sheer positiveness shown to the mosque plan. I suspect dodgy dealing somewhere in the first case, time and investigation will tell on the second.
The Hereford situation is getting interesting in so far as there may
be issues with money (the mosque fund jumped recently accordig to what I could find on the web but which may now have been 'moved'. Saudi money perhaps?
The tone of the diversity fans on the Hereford Times site and from within the council was pretty disturbing even to someone who is familiar with lefties. There was an active desire on their part to see the city non homogenised. Even if it was against the wishes of the wishes of those who live and work in the city.
Admiral Akbar's postal voting legionnaires get their promised reward.
ReplyDeleteoh, you've been to tower hamlets as well.
ReplyDelete"It is suspicious in the Hereford case not only in the speed of the diversity officer statement..."
ReplyDeleteOh, I suspect they have this boilerplate stuff already prepared...
Yup and the boilerplate always includes the words 'diverse' and 'vibrant'.
ReplyDeleteMy comment about councils should read 'accountability' no 'accountancy; Doh!
