A spokesperson for the council said: “Our planning policies promote the development of the Abbey Mills site for a mix of residential and employment uses, to create a new local centre near West Ham station.
“The Riverine Trust gave assurances at the public inquiry in February 2010 that the site would be redeveloped within two years according to these policies and a mixed-use application would be submitted. It voluntarily committed to this in a legally binding Unilateral Undertaking that meant the Trust had to stop using the site as a mosque and demolish the existing buildings if it failed to comply.”So, were council lawyers eagerly awaiting March 1st 2012 to see if the undertaking had indeed been taken seriously?
By the end of February 2012 deadline that undertaking had not been complied with; the site was still being used as a mosque, no buildings removed and no mixed use planning application submitted.Ah. So, it’s now reported that:
It has lodged papers at London’s High Court and is waiting for a hearing date.Nine months..?!?
That’s how long it takes for them to wake up and smell the (Arabic) coffee?
Too late, burn it down.
ReplyDeleteDo what you'd do to anyone else, move in backhoes and level the place.
ReplyDeleteNote that Cameron has said he's going to remove planning controls. You'd think he'd be able to spot the shanty sites and mosques as obvious banana skins strewn in his blundering path, but no.
ReplyDeletePass the popcorn, please.
This is Newham, a council sadly 'owned' by bearded savages. I bet that Newham will make a big outrage and fuss about this illegal development and then quietly issue retrospective planning permission.

Followed by a gaggle of Huey agent orange spryers, loaded with pigs blood.
This earlier report in the Newham Recorder makes things a little clearer.
ReplyDeleteThere also appears to be a current planning application lodged with Newham Council (submitted 1st March 2012) for a mosque only.
Given this site's long history, its obvious the owners/backers are going to keep dragging this out until such time they get exactly what they want, no matter how long it takes.
In the interests of fairness, you have to ask whether another faith (including Christian) would be granted permission to build a Cathedral (for this is what's being proposed) in the same or similar location? I don't think they would, not these days.

ReplyDeleteI agues he figures they'll never be near him. Or his friends. :/

Now there's a good idea!

It's a long game they are playing, all right...
