Andrew Davies, defending Winstone, who has 18 court appearances for 28 offences including public disorder and affray, said the assault against the teen had taken place following a family member’s funeral, when emotions were heightened.
Well, funerals can make you do strange things, such as go out and assault a complete stranger, unprovoked...
He said Winstone had a problem with drugs earlier in his life, which he had replaced with alcohol.
Clearly, it's not working any better, is it?
But he added that despite that, he wanted to be a father to his five-year-old daughter.
*sighs*
Andrew Davies, one of the thousands of legal aid dependant lawyers defending the indefensible with the help of the taxpayer.
ReplyDeleteCourts should have a pro-forma mitigation sheet with statement saying 'tick all that apply' - they're the same across the UK, spouted on a daily basis by people who don't believe them, to people who don't believe them on behalf of people who couldn't give a fuck!
He said "he wanted to be a father to his five-year-old daughter...but didn't say when or how the hell he was going to achieve it.
ReplyDeleteThe devil is in the detail...or, rather, the complete and utter lack of it.
Poor kid :/
"Winstone".... let me guess....
ReplyDelete"he wanted to be a father to his five-year-old daughter"
ReplyDeleteGag reflex overload. Here in the U.S., whenever a teenage gang-banger gets his ass shot dead the story on the local news broadcasts are always the same. The dead teenage gang-banger:
1. Was just re-establising connections with his child/children.
2. Was thinking about leaving gang life.
3. Was talking about going back to school.
Note, the dead teenage gang-banger hadn't actually done any of those in any concrete way but, hey, why ruin a good boo-hoo story. I swear, let the dead gang-banger be under 20-years of age and they will run that same exact story every single time.
"...defending the indefensible with the help of the taxpayer."
ReplyDeleteI suppose it's (slightly) better than the alternative.

Ahh, yes. Over here, he's usually a 'promising footballer'. Or 'athlete'.
Or sometime 'musician', though that rarely means he can play any instruments...
