Errr, Hang On…

A woman caught shoplifting had tried to bite the security tags off four bottles of spirits, a court heard.
Ah, right. To sell to get money to buy drugs?
Kirsty Holt, 24, of Holme Terrace, Nelson, had wanted to steal drink to sell to get cash for food because her benefits had been suspended and she was hungry.
Ummm… OK. Sure. That makes sense. I mean, stealing stuff that’s tagged to get money to buy food that… isn't…tagged…. Oh. OK.

I'm sure the magistrates never swallowed it for a minute. Oh. Wait.
The defendant was given a six month community order.
About as much sense being made there by the justice system!
Philip Turner, for Holt, said she had had drug and relationship problems. The solicitor said: “She has faced and attempted to tackle these difficulties. She has been to Inspire and is on a methadone prescription. The defendant has mental health issues, is receiving counselling weekly and is on medication every day. ”
Imagine what she’d get up to if she wasn't!

  1. I think even the well off have drug and relationship problems. I guess she was acknowledged because she wasn't well off?

If there was proper guidance in place and an interest in the job market, you wouldn't have this heading?

Not being difficult. Just stating facts.

    Feral.

  2. One despairs for the modern breed of solicitors. "I was hungry" is the "dog ate my howmework" of defenses.

Anyone could see the poor woman was in agony from a dental abscess and that she was simply using the plastic tag of the bottles as a make shift set of pliers- much as our mothers used a length of cotton and the door knob, your Worships!

  3. On medication and receiving counselling.

Because getting drugged up to the eyeballs and endlessly talking about problems solves them ?

    Gosh...who knew.

Otherwise known as "wind 'em up and watch 'em go".

I think it was more the 'committing crimes' bit, tbh...

"Anyone could see the poor woman was in agony from.."

You'll take silk any day now!

It solves the problem of otherwise-unemployable public servants, yes...
