Oh, How Could I Forget The School Holidays Are Imminent?

Kids are already practising:
Passengers narrowly escaped injury after a gang of kids as young as eight pelted a 73a double decker bus with stones, smashing an upstairs window and causing £500 of damage. Nobody was hurt in the attack, which happened at 7.15pm as the bus travelled past King George’s Field, in Feenan Highway, Tilbury.
But bosses at bus company Ensign say attacks are becoming more common and they may have to consider withdrawing the service.
Yes, of course, because that's much easier than catching and punishing the miscreants.
Paul Dickson, customer service manager, said: “We have CCTV images of a group of around five kids, aged between eight and 11, throwing stones at the bus as it passes the park.“
Should be easy to identify them and bring them to justice, then.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “The suspects are described as white, aged between eight and ten, and one of them was riding a blue bike.”
And..? Have you trawled the local schools? Sent out patrols? Done anything at all?

  1. I initially wondered why the bus company didn't start by sending an observer out armed with a camera - after all, with photographic evidence, local school could be asked to help with identification.

Then I saw the tags you put on this post...

  2. Problem is that for the bus service, withdrawing the service is the only thing that makes sense.

The bus company cannot arrest or even investigate who is damaging their vehicles - if they go out and investigate, someone from their team will probably end up in the dock for harassment or assault or similar.

I would have thought that although the police don't give a damn about me or my property, they'd at least still bother to help out other arms of government / councils. I guess I'm glad it's not just me they ignore.

  3. Can't blame the bus company for withdrawing a service if the police won't do their job.

  5. Your last sentence sarcastically assumes that the police aren't doing anything. How do you know that? What if the police have identified all the little scamps and are swooping as we speak?
How good are your sources in Essex police? Oh that's right you haven't got any.

  6. Perhaps an enterprising local citizen could sit on the bus and take a video recording of the incidents, showing the faces of the little angels, and then showing it on something like youtube? To have one's little darling's image perused by several thousand people, including those who live near the little darlings, should concentrate the minds of the fathers somewhat. It may even push them towards towards doing what they should be doing - being aware of their parental responsibilities in preventing their offspring ending up as ignorant thugs. Hang on a minute though, this is Tilbury we are talking about. The problem therefore, could well be identifying the fathers in the first place. In that case, perhaps someone could do a trawl of the local boozers and let the mothers know what's happening? For those who don't know Tilbury, if England had haemorrhoids, Tilbury is where they would shove the suppository.

  7. Penseivat, nicely stated. Once an official body including da feds starts to mention filming/surveillance a whole load of ridiculous bureaucracy that was never intended to be applied to such things looms - RIPA....

I'm sure also that someone somewhere has already decided it isn't worth doing anything because of 'the children's' ages - age of criminal responsibility and all that - which is also infuriating - I'm just saying.

But a YouTube vid entitle ' Tilbury Mong Scum Amoebas' shaming the little fuckers sounds great. Cue local newspaper shot of angry fat chav mum (there won't be a dad available) holding impish but surly mongtard child with a mullett/mohican hairstyle moaning about their rights being abused. SUMMINK MUSS B DUN!

"Problem is that for the bus service, withdrawing the service is the only thing that makes sense."

Yup, that's the reality of perverse incentives.

"What if the police have identified all the little scamps and are swooping as we speak?"

Ahahahahaha! *wipes away tears of mirth*

    This is Essex.

"Hang on a minute though, this is Tilbury we are talking about. The problem therefore, could well be identifying the fathers in the first place."

    Spot on!
