    That's a little unfair Julia.

I happen to know that the bathing habits of Bexley are the highest they've been since Elizabethan levels. Mostly.

  7. The wind must be in the "wrong" direction again.

The usual source of general persistent fecal pong in that corner of SE London is the Crosness Sewage Treatment Plant, a.k.a. The Thamesmead Shitworks, which processes much of South London's crap.

They do spray the settlement beds with Industrial Chanel No 5 or somesuch, generally successfully, but a persistent unfavourable wind can spread the residual pong over much of Greenwich and/or Bexley.

    You get used to it.

  8. If it's a manure-like smell it's probably manure.

We are in field-spraying-with-shit season after all.

I have a bucket of chicken shit that I'm about to throw all over my garden so if you read a similar story from the north of Scotland in a week or so, it was probably me.
