Ellie Dibben, a 16-year-old advocate, said: "To me, an equal society for men and women would be one where shampoo adverts also include men washing their hair provocatively while frolicking in the shower."
*sighs*
Jo Swinson, the Liberal Democrat under-secretary for women and equalities was particularly worried by the number of girls unhappy with their looks.
"This trend is going the wrong way and should give us all cause for concern. That's why the government's Body Confidence Campaign has been working with the media, advertising, retail and fashion industries to encourage diversity and reduce the harmful effects of gender stereotyping and objectification."
Maybe stop banging on about the 'obesity crisis' then?
""To me, an equal society for men and women would be one where shampoo adverts also include men washing their hair provocatively while frolicking in the shower.""
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to explain to this bird that men and women are different.
Mrs Bucko uses some kind of two in one, colour treated, yadda yadda, blah blah, all singing, all dancing shampoo, just like that stuff in that advert that is targeted at women
I use Sainsburys Basics shampoo. It's 35p a bottle and lasts for months.
Maybe Gillette adverts should include good looking women shaving their top lip? Or is her equal world only equal in one way?
Utterly shocking discrimination. What about chaps who no longer have hair?
ReplyDelete"To me, an equal society for men and women would be one where ........"
ReplyDeleteThe women stride out from the seaside surf in just their bikini bottoms.....
Your point about obesity scaremongering is a good one. Especially since despite the anal nature of social commentators to go into just about every detail of the human condition to find 'causes' for particular behaviour, I've not read any yet who mention the constant obesity nagging when they're wondering why girls are slimming themselves sick.
ReplyDeleteTo me, an equal society for men and women would be one where women buy me dinner, they take me to a show, they give me a nightcap and then they bang my brains out.
ReplyDeleteOnly a cooze as witless as Ellie Dibben would think that men take shampoo seriously.
But let's not be too harsh - I have the perfect ad for Elbows and Head shampoo, forming in my mind.
Scene: A steamy shower. A thin man with a moustache is provocatively shampooing his curly hair.
There is a knock at the bathroom door, then a young lady enters the shower with him. "I just love the way you shampoo your hair" she says.
The camera pans out to reveal that the shampooer is John Holmes, in all his glory.
"Ellie" - he says - "now prove that you love me".
An equal society, as depicted in ads, would be one where every advert which contained both sexes didn't usually portray the man as an incompetent moron.
ReplyDeleteSo why do women paint their lips an odd shade of red, distort their hair and wear very strange shoes?
ReplyDeleteWell they dont do they - you rarely see grannies got up like this.
It is a puzzle.
"Nearly two-thirds of 7- to 11-year-olds use nail polish, half wear makeup and one in three wears high heels" according to Girlguiding. So isn't it time these freak spinsters were kept away from children?
ReplyDeleteJohn Holmes, in all his glory.... only if the young lady is Melissa Millington..
ReplyDeleteCould someone please put me out of my misery and tell me who Melissa Millington is?
ReplyDeleteXX Jo Swinson, the Liberal Democrat under-secretary for women and equalities was particularly worried by the number of girls unhappy with their looks.
ReplyDeleteAye, well, Swinson has pleanty of experience in that field.
Deservedly.
ReplyDeleteMen and women will only be equal when they all pee into the same trough.
ReplyDeleteGood point Julia about the Diet Coke ads. They really do objectify men. So do any number of other ads, and they are all invisible to the feminist lobby.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed this before, this tendency on their part to live in the sixties, or possibly the 17th century, and to re-fight battles that were alive then but now have become just a little bit moribund.
"Someone needs to explain to this bird that men and women are different."
ReplyDeleteThat's something these people will NEVER admit...
"...I've not read any yet who mention the constant obesity nagging..."
I think CiF did one once. The comments section was full of the 'yes, but it's different when we do it' crap... :/
"The camera pans out to reveal that the shampooer is John Holmes, in all his glory.
"Ellie" - he says - "now prove that you love me"."
ROFL!
"Aye, well, Swinson has pleanty of experience in that field."
ReplyDeleteSNORK!
"...and to re-fight battles that were alive then but now have become just a little bit moribund."
You rarely see them tackle that thorny Islam question, do you?
