Nobody Tell Them About Cock Robin, For The Love Of God!

The couple issued a statement: ‘On Friday morning at 7.30am the rabbit family living in Carters Park were slaughtered.
The rabbit 'family'...?

And these people manage a park? Good grief!
‘The person who killed the rabbits very unkindly told a staff member what he had done and that he was taking them home and eating them for his dinner.
....

Yes, and?
'He said he had acted on behalf of the bowls club.
‘We have seen the rabbits grow up this summer and there were about eight of them. On Saturday, there were none left.’
And this time next year, if left alone, there'd have been eighty!

And it's not as though Carter's Park were some sort of Sylvanian Family wonderland, either:
Holbeach in Bloom chairman Coun Graham Rudkin said: “The judges commented on certain things about Carter’s Park such as some of the weeds that are smothering a number of trees in the park.
“The hedge alongside the footpath is in a bit of a state and we’re looking to put a new fence in after an accident last month when a car crashed through the fence.
“Carter’s Park is used a lot by people in Holbeach and we want to start improving it to make it a better place for everybody.”
Perhaps they'd like to do something about the weeds rather than whinging about the destruction of pests? Though I doubt they could find anyone to eat them...

    Only in England...

Mind you, the Bowls Club need a new minister of propaganda. If they had simply issued a statement stating that the rabbits posed a danger to CHILDREN in the park then they would have gotten a Lottery fund grant to MURDER THE POOR LITTLE BUNNY WABBITS!!!

Here my suggestion for their next press release:

"It has been shown that rabbit droppings contain plant matter and Nicotinia Rustica is a plant".

  5. Natural England advise:

    Q. Large numbers of rabbits are causing damage on my or my neighbour's land, what can I do?

    A. The majority of England has been designated under the Pest s Act 1954 as a rabbit clearance area. This places an obligation on occupiers of land to control rabbits living on their land or to prevent them causing damage to neighbouring land. Natural England have a range of advice leaflets available. If your neighbour has rabbits harboured on their land, you can write to them sending a copy of the WML - G22 guidance and requesting action is taken to resolve the situation.

    ...

Bottom line appears to be that the park had the responsibility to cull or fence-in the rabbits, not so much for the club but for the general purpose of stopping rabbits breeding and even more of them getting in to the surrounding countryside.

Given the rabbitat all across the fens, I would not have thought one hedgeful would make any difference.

"Yes. It is how forests were from the dawn of time."

We like our 'nature' manicured now...

(I nearly said 'bushes trimmed', but thought better of it)
