TDONA*

A taxi driver has been fined after refusing a guide dog to travel with her registered blind owner in Newport.
The driver of the saloon taxi refused to allow the black labrador into his taxi citing that he was allergic to them, she said. When Ms James questioned whether he had a medical certificate and said that she wanted to make a complaint, she said the driver supplied the wrong name and driver ID.
Henceforth, throughout the entire article, he’s referred to as ‘the driver’. No mention of his name.

I’m betting – despite the Welsh setting - it wasn’t ‘Evans’, or ‘Jones’…
Newport council said the former Dragon's Taxi driver pleaded guilty at Newport Magistrates Court on March 28, 2014 and received a 12 month conditional discharge. The driver was ordered to pay £100 contribution towards Newport City Council’s costs and the £15 victim surcharge.
The actual victim gets nothing.
Michelle Bennett, supervisor at Dragon's Taxi's, said: "We are aware of that incident and the driver was suspended. He doesn't work here anymore."
No doubt he’s working at some other taxi firm…

  1. To I get the fragrant hint of 'Bearded Savagery' from this story. After all it's hardly likely to be someone who attends a Baptist Chapel will have such an aversion to dogs.

  2. As this hasn't been on the BBC, the Guardian, the Independent, the Times, the Mail et al I think we can assume the driver's not a UKIP member either.

  3. If only we could train those wonderful Arab hunting dogs, Saluki I think they're called. Then let the philosophical discussions begin.
