Do You Think That Tipper Truck Was Just Sightseeing Then, Charlie?

I mean, it clearly wasn’t driving through central London for business-related reasons, in your book?
Charlie Lloyd, spokesman for the London Cycling Campaign, described the junction as "frightening" as he called for it to be completely pedestrianised.
He said: "I think everyone coming through that junction knows it is horrendous. This junction is at the heart of the city. It would make a fantastic pedestrianised space. There is no need for road traffic. It should be made wonderful and not frightening."
Want to bet Charlie would be screaming blue murder should his organic hand-mixed muesli not be available at his local deli because no lorries can’t get in to the high street to deliver supplies?

  1. Doesn't he realise that pedestrianised means NO CYCLISTS as well, or does he think the riding through a group of pedestrians of OK?

Maybe it would be better to ban cyclists from that junction if they are so bad at following the highway code and using common sense.

Good idea! "Completely pedestrianised" means no cyclists, only pedestrians!

  3. Even if they cycle on the left of a truck about to turn, too close to the vehicle to be visible in the rear view mirror, it's still the driver's fault if they get mashed! Perhaps truck drivers who are the victims of such events should get awards for reducing the opportunities of the thick, smug and arrogant for breeding.

  4. Mr Lloyd's diet of hand-mixed muesli does contrast with your chocolate croissants and creamy flapjacks breakfast, Julia. That cycle manufacturers ruled out production of a double framed walk-through cycle, featuring heavy duty spokes and an XXXL saddle with buttock containment rim, is no fault of his.

  5. Tell you what, let's pedestrianise it, including the complete prohibition of bicycles. Then everyone can feel safer

  7. I used to cycle from Walworth to Notting Hill to work for years(I work from home now so no need). I cycled round some of these dangerous junctions such the Elephant and Castle, Parliament Square and Hyde Park Corner they crow on about. Guess how I survived? Yep, I followed the Highway Code and used common sense such as staying back behind long vehicles so I could see their indicators.

  8. @ Anon
You cannot always see vehicles creep up on you at a roundabout. This chancy meeting is one of the most dangerous for a cyclist, as I know from personal experience. If you are going to be wiped out by the tail end of a lorry, this is where it will most likely happen.

Well, going on the usual behaviour of this type of cycling activist...

"Perhaps truck drivers who are the victims of such events should get awards for reducing the opportunities of the thick, smug and arrogant for breeding."

And they seem to be going about it in good wildlife management style by mostly taking the females out of the population!

"Guess how I survived? Yep, I followed the Highway Code..."

    Oh, you rebel, you...! ;)
