Questions were raised over how Mr King, who has been arrested on suspicion of murder, was able to smuggle a firearm and live ammunition into the secure care home inside De La Mer House in the tranquil seaside town of Walton-on-the-Naze, in Essex.Because it's a care home.
Not a court, prison, airport, government building or any other sort of place where you might reasonably expect to be searched for weapons on entrance.
Sheesh!
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Werrett, who is leading the investigation, said: 'At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation and our inquiries are ongoing.'A sad case, and one even Essex Police couldn't conceivably screw up...
Douglas Carswell, the Ukip MP for the area, said he was 'very shocked' by the news, adding that Walton-on-the-Naze was usually a peaceful place.
He said: 'It's very shocking. If you have got a loved one in a care home, you expect them to be safe.
'People need to know the exact circumstances of what happened, it is extremely disturbing.Do they? I think anyone with the slightest amount of common sense can figure this one out for themselves...
'Walton-on-the-Naze is supposed to be one of the most peaceful and tranquil places there is - elderly people want to be in a peaceful and tranquil environment.Do they? What, all of them?
'Of all the places you expect this to happen, this is the last.'
He added: 'Something has clearly gone wrong that someone has been able to bring a gun capable of doing some damage into a care home. It really beggars belief.'*sighs*
Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a pontificating fool, Dougie, than open it and remove all doubt...
Man kills dementia stricken wife who he felt had suffered enough? Poor bastard. More to be pitied than anything else. That he used a WW2 vintage revolver is of no import because aren't such things supposed to be 'illegal' and therefore impossible to obtain or keep in the UK?
ReplyDeleteI'm more surprised the ammunition still worked after seventy years.
Yes, my thoughts too Bill, I mean for all the pontificating and hand wringing over the hand gun ban, all it actually did was take them out of the hands of licenced owners, who are by and large law abiding and sane.
ReplyDelete"Poor bastard. More to be pitied than anything else. "
ReplyDeleteIndeed so. I suspect that's not how the tabloids (aided by the State machinery) will play it, though.
"...all it actually did was take them out of the hands of licenced owners, who are by and large law abiding and sane."
Working, I suspect, very much as intended!
