A man with mental health problems who bit a dog and then threw milk at a shop worker died after being restrained by four men, an inquest heard.
...
An inquest into Mr Beeson's death began on Wednesday at Peterborough Town Hall where medical evidence said he died from "traumatic asphyxia during restraint whilst in an agitated state"....to turn up after the danger's passed and arrest the victims.
The four men were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and then later released without charge.
The 45-year-old owner of the dog was also arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, and was later released without charge. So you do the best you can to protect yourselves and others from a dangerous lunatic, and your 'reward' is to then be arrested yourselves. When the people paid to deal with dangerous lunatics finally show up.
Is it me, or..?
Chief manager at the shop Jayne Peck told the inquest: “I heard a bit of a noise, saw the milkman standing there, saw another man now I know is Clive Beeson."
“The man started throwing plastic milk bottles.
"Then I saw Alan come round from the counter and he was trying to calm him down."
Ms Peck was told to push a staff alarm and call the police.
"Alan was still saying calm down, calm down, he then told me to go and phone the police," she added. “I was very, very frightened, I can remember Alan shouting at me to get help.
“All I can remember Alan saying ‘calm down, calm down, what's happened?’
Alan was frightened as well.
"I could tell in his face."And now anyone else in that situation in the future has one more thing to fear. The people paid to deal with it.
Provide him with your contempt and scorn. Never call for Plod, rely on Plod or assist Plod in any way. If you cannot avoid speaking to Plod, never volunteer anything the swine could use against you or anyone else. Let us end his reign over us.

and what, pray, would the headlines have screamed if the police hadn't arrested everyone on the spot until the facts were known and it transpired that one of the 'helpers' had infact knowingly caused the death of someone with a valid Victim Of Mental Illness disability card? POLICE LET KILLER ESCAPE?
ReplyDeleteGo on then Julia. Tell us how you would have investigated this incident as it unfolded without the benefit of hindsight. For someone who likes to appear 'knowing' and with an 'in depth knowledge of police procedures' you do, at times, come across as a little bit credulous and willing to accept anything that fits your world view.
ReplyDeleteAs I have said previously more people will be restrained to death by police than are shot by police. Physical restraint is dangerous for all parties involved.
The bottom line is that someone has died. The police are duty bound to investigate the incident and the circumstances surrounding that death. I can just see what would happen if you investigated it:
Coroner 'DCI JuliaM you 'investigated' this death did you not?'
DCI JuliaM 'Yeah, well, he was a slag. No loss innit'
Coroner 'I see, so despite the fact a person had died you had already formed a view of what had happened and made no effort to carry out a thorough investigation?'
DCI JuliaM 'Nah, no point. he had it coming to him'
Coroner 'I see. Counsel for the family of the deceased has some questions to put to you about lines of inquiry you neglected to follow and is it also true that you are currently suspended pending an IOPC investigation?'
It's not pleasant for the people involved but unlike you the first attenders do not have the benefit of hindsight and as a nasty cynical ex police person I find that not accepting the first version of events works well.

..unless of course the person making the complaint is obviously off HER meds, a known serial liar and claiming she was gang raped by lizard men. In which case she HAS to be believed?
Melvin-you are scum.
ReplyDeleteJack and Retired- you are spot on.
I'm off to work now and I have to get in a bit early as my crystal ball needs polishing.
Jaded
The people paid to deal with mental health.
ReplyDeleteThe NHS then?
Jack, re your posting at 0657 may I refer you to comments made by our esteemed and competent PM and Ex Home Secretary as well as Sir Tom Winsor that the police have to have an institutionalized culture of believing victims. I'm glad I'm not in now as it's difficult keeping up with trends. Is this a week for unquestioningly accepting everything a witness says or is a sceptical week?

"...and what, pray, would the headlines have screamed if the police hadn't arrested everyone on the spot"
ReplyDeletePerhaps the police should listen less to the predictable cries of the media?
"The bottom line is that someone has died. The police are duty bound to investigate the incident..."
I haven't suggested that shouldn't. I've merely queried their methods. There was no need to arrest everyone 'just in case'.
"The people paid to deal with mental health.
The NHS then?"
I'm not aware they have the resources to roam the streets to tackle the violently mentally ill. Of course, they wouldn't need to, if they simply stopped releasing them into the community.

If only the lingering suspicion wasn't 'well, it depends on the Victimhood status of the aggressor'...
Just the one ball...like Hitler, Jaded?
