"Dictionary For The Snowflakes, STAT!"

A hospital trust has been criticised for...
*takes deep breath*
...describing mothers who use formula milk as "artificially" feeding babies.
Ummmm, hang on.

Yup, that's factually correct. What's the problem?
One woman who said she had been unable to breastfeed said the letter's wording made her "sick to the stomach".
Ah. The perennial 'problem' these days. Someone has hurt feelings!
The trust said it would "consider carefully" feedback it had received.
Before, hopefully, telling them to grow up....

  2. It's rather excessive to claim that a choice of language makes you "sick to the stomach" but the wording is unpleasant.

Feeding, whether breast or formula milk, is feeding and I don't see how any type of feeding can be artificial. The OED won't help with this because it's nonsense.

The other point is the widespread pressure on new mothers to breast feed which is reinforced by normative language - if you're artificially feeding your baby can you really be doing what's best for it.

  3. Yes that snowflakey mom needs to get over herself but it is also the case that the Breast-Is-BeϞt renta mob are following the Tobacco Control Industry play book and doing their best to turn moms who formula feed into pariahs, no doubt someone has already coined the phrase 'Big Baby Milk'.

    SNORK!

Is it? If I bottle feed, it's artificial. There's really no doubt.

Oh, certainly! But pick battles that don't make you look like a lunatic.

Piffle - perhaps breast-milk IS best but bottle is still feeding whether formula or expressed boob.
