"And Out Of Instagram Came Forth Morons..."

Its green and gold packaging has remained almost unchanged since Lyle's Golden Syrup first launched in 1881.
But some foodies have only just noticed that the lion logo on Britain's oldest brand is much more macabre than it first appears.
*sighs*

  1. "Foodies DELIGHTED to learn Brit national Dish NOT named for Edwina Curry."

There are days when the curse of my lineage (of going for a midday sleep and waking up dead), doesn't seem such a curse.

  2. Don't know if it still does but it used to contain the legend "out of the strong came forth sweetness" which was a reference to a story about Samson, the legendary strong man from the book of Judges in the Bible. Samson killed the lion with his bare hands. He returned to the carcass later to find that there was a bees nest inside it. He broke into it and ate some of the honey. He later devised a riddle to confound the Phillistines with. Bees of course do not build their nests in carrion, if the carcass was buzzing it would have been flies.
