Thousands of patients who had surgery on broken bones face further treatment after it emerged some were fitted with the wrong type of metal plate.
Hospitals have been ordered to review the X-rays of around 5,500 patients treated with plates for the fracture of long bones, such as arms and legs, in the past year.
The NHS and British Orthopaedic Association announced a national review after it was revealed seven patients at one trust had flexible plates, designed for reconstruction, inserted rather than rigid ones.
At least it's only taken them a year to realise. That's something, I suppose.
When will Britons finally wake up to the fact that the NHS is not only shit, but is shit because the idea of the State providing healthcare is a terrible idea in the first place and one that ends up being a sclerotic and uncaring mess? I used to support the idea of the NHS but having had one too many relatives treated badly by it I would support it being replaced by something better.

ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of people like you (and I'm in the same boat) out there, and the number is growing as people live longer, and more and more families are experiencing how the NHS treats their elderly family members. Eventually, rather like Brexit a politician will notice this huge reservoir of votes and position themselves to try and get some of them. The only thing we can do to facilitate that eureka moment is keep harassing our MPs with demands to reform the NHS. Not give it more money, actual reforms so that the patient is put in control, not the NHS staff.

ReplyDeleteDitto, sadly.

You clearly have more faith in the modern 'Conservative' Party than I do!
