Having had a cob grab and eat a sardine sandwich, I might dispute this label. Vegan in this context probably means that all of their tack is made from nylon webbing and neoprene, not leather.
When I was a nipper, a great aunt told me that before World War 1 it was customary for some to feed donkeys a bit of bully beef. It can't have done them much good.
"...but aren't all horses vegan..?"

Mares will eat the placenta after foaling.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if eating part of yourself counts as being non-vegan.
Anyway, that's a donkey not a horse!

I just found the article. My word, it is ripe for and deserving of a review by Julia. A veritable motherlode of sanctimonious clap trap.
ReplyDeleteWeren't there some horses in the Greek myths, labours of Hercules I think, that ate human flesh? Maybe they were snuck in in the back of a lorry.
