A Nation Of Shopkeepers?

Or a nation of informers?
Police are urging the public to stop calling them about cafes and restaurants remaining open.
How times change! When this newspaper went to print last week and I was compiling this post, the idea that people would call the police for this seemed ludicrous.

But now? Not only are they being encouraged to do so, but the police have been forced into a 180 and will have to respond!
Posting on their Twitter page today, Sussex Police said: "We’re getting calls about cafes and restaurants still open.
"We are reminding premises of the Government's advice if they are open.
"However, some will be operating a takeaway service, not affected by the measures.
"Please keep our lines free for those that need us. Thank you."
Do they now mean 'Please keep our lines free for others to report a neighbour taking more than the one permitted exercise walk per day'..?

Who is most to blame for this hysteria? Well, it's people like this:

As the intro to the old show 'Dark Skies' warned us: "They're here. They're hostile. And powerful people don't want you to know."

These are the people who once informed for the Stasi and KGB, the same ones who were the Blockleiters and Gauleiters that the Gestapo relied on. Onc eon a time, Nosey Parker was a term of abuse, now its a job description. If one of these tossers dobs you in, remember them when this "crisis" is over, I most certainly will!

  2. To begin with I was able to derive some pleasure from trolling hysterical mongs on YouTube and the Daily Fail but it does quickly pall. I don't think I've felt this level of disconnect from my fellow citizens since the demise of Diana. I'd hoped not to go through that surreal experience again, but here we are. At least it's revealing just who has been bodysnatched.

  3. My experience of the police has been that they would really prefer it if you didn't ring them at all. I have been fobbed off with almost any excuse and even out and out lies so that they can avoid turning out and actually doing something. A good example was when I gave my post code the control room operator insisted that the code given refered to a town 15 miles away and so couldn't work out where the incident was taking place. Fortunately the ambulance service were able to turn up using the same code in 10 minutes.

Unfortunately, the problem with that would surely be the dhim policies towards people out at sea on fucking rafts, isn't it?

The speed with which they've sprung back intro action is depressing.

Snap! It's astonishing how thin the veneer of civilisation really is, isn't it?

Maybe that's why they want us all indoors right now, staring at the wallpaper..?

Yes, I notice that while police are out ensuring people only walk their dogs once a day, Abdul and Farook are free to set sail for the White Cliffs of Dover with utter impunity...

  6. The words in the article shown which I found to be the most disturbing were "..and in defiance of state orders"
The State cannot 'order' anything. It must legislate, after debate, consideration and general acceptance. Such immediate and open acquiescence to limitless state rule by anyone is frightening.
