"We Must Do More..."

"...we must do, errr, ummm, wait, I'll figure it out in a moment..."
Parents are increasingly worried about the safety of their children after a teenager was murdered on a bus in South Norwood – the third fatal stabbing in Croydon this year.
Why? If their children aren't in gangs, they should be fine.
This morning residents were shocked that another young life had been lost on their doorstep.
John Ormesher said: “Every time this happens it is just another wasted life.
“There have been enough murders to see that something needs to be done, but it is very easy to say that and do nothing about it.”
Would you like to suggest something?
Kieron McNulty from Selhurst said that his children, aged 16 and 14, are now frightened that they will be attacked where they live in Penge. He added: “It is a worry, you’re worried about saying the wrong thing to someone and getting stabbed, that civility has gone.
“There has got to be more stuff for kids to do.”
Ah, yes. The excuse that these criminals are stabbing each other because 'there ain't no yoof clubs, innit fam?'...
A woman who has lived in the area for the past 65 years said that it has changed dramatically in that time. She added: “I don’t go out at night anymore, things like this worry me.
Why do they do it, the young ones? It’s all against each other. You’d think they would want to be kind to each other.
Maybe they should listen to more Carpenters, and less drill rap...
And Kim Russell who lives nearby was shocked by the news. She said: “It is very, very sad. I’ve got a teenage boy myself and I worry about him all the time.
“I am in this area every day and you don’t expect something like that to happen on a bus, I use the 130 twice a day.”
Why don't you? Buses seem to be preferred hunting grounds for underclass gangs. Even outside London.
Another man on his way to the shops had not heard about the stabbing, but said that sadly incidents like this feel ‘normal to him now’.
They feel normal to a lot of people.
And Ranim who runs Avantgarde Autos in Whitehorse Lane heard about the stabbing on his way to work this morning (March 9).
“It is tragic, I think more can be done to help the youngsters. They are killing each other.”
'Help them' in what way?

  1. 'Rap' makers and their fans are equally worthless. Not very charitable but I really couldn't care less if they develop a hopeless addiction to stabbing each other.

  2. Note that 90% of the people calling for someone to 'do more' are the same people who whine about it being rayciss'n'sheet when anyone actually do anything that might reduce the death toll.

  3. The great tragedy is that they are all cheeky chappies who were always smiling, lit up a room and would do anything for anybody.

I would have thought a fair amount could be done by taking all the coppers who are presently watching out for someone saying something unkind on farcebook or twatter and putting them on patrol in the worst areas, or perhaps riding about on buses. The places are, as Jaded says, shitholes and full of scum, but this is not improved by an absence of any police presence.

  9. As an older person I no longer go out at night because I just don't feel safe. Welcome to modern UK where I am a partial prisoner and the rule of law is just a joke. Today I got my council tax bill with yet another hike in the charge for the police. Around here I have not seen a uniform for over two years, now that's what I call real value for money.

I understand your point of view and fully empathise, having received my own council tax bill this morning. I knew what was inside the envelope before opening yet another curt demand. This year it evoked irritation, anger and contempt for the inevitable hiking of the police charge.

Plod have a talent for mugging low-risk targets. Honest motorists, especially the vulnerable group whose hard work built up this country from its post-war austerity, are the easiest hits. Plod have burrowed 'there' way under the skin of the Economy where they nestle like botfly maggots; drawing sustenance from their host and providing nothing in return. Ineffective and totally parasitic, plod have established comfortable and rewarding nesting sites; thereafter tunnelling into deeper tissues before finally emerging from faecal deposits.

'Around here I have not seen a uniform for over two years, now that's what I call real value for money.'...If you have any genuine desire to see these spongers in their food-stained uniforms, you can be confident of an appearance from nowhere should you exceed the speed limit by 1 mph.

  11. Must be a full moon again. Or he's suffering from cabin fever. Surely Melvin you are used to self isolating as you have no friends?

Consistency in your Freudian projections establishes you as the friendless poster here. And you are also the long term outpatient with the 'mental health issues' label you persistently try to pin on me.

The one truth you post (erroneously hoping it will smear) is that I have few, really close friends. Truly worthwhile material is hard to find, Jaded. My closest friends are undogmatic, non-judgemental, honest and trustworthy.

As one of many UK septuagenarians who made an early decision to self-isolate, I find the new experience, 'trying'. Some of us are lucky to have a home gym and I have chosen to keep fit and fall back on other entrenched, Grammar School disciplines. Unlike yourself, I will be neither a vehicle nor a victim of COVID-19, dear.

Me neither! Charity begins at home, right?

"...the same people who whine about it being rayciss'n'sheet when anyone actually do anything that might reduce the death toll."

    Oh, yes!

Rather like the people who endlessly bang on about the 'need' to cover the South in concrete and build housing are now demanding 'PUT DOWN THAT HOD!' because you can't social distance on a building site...

"All those areas mentioned in this post are s**t-holes and full of scum."

True, But decent people also live there. You won't notice that, because they'll only ever present as victims, not perpetrators.

"...and putting them on patrol in the worst areas, or perhaps riding about on buses."

Too busy right now making sure no-one goes out of their house for TWO walks!

"Welcome to modern UK where I am a partial prisoner ..."

Not any more! 'Partial', that is...
