I suspect the Grauniad can no longer afford to pay junior scribes, who once might have checked for typos, spelling & grammar errors. It's probably done (but not very well) by software these days. But then, they were always crap at it - hence the nickname Grauniad!
I think that it is supposed to say 'wave of redundancies'. Auto correct strikes again.

I was going to say "Slew", but since the letters "W" & "S" are above one another on the keyboard, I think Stonyground is correct.
