No, Just The Once...

*sigh*
RSPCA Inspector Claire Mitchell said the male buzzard was still quite feisty when she picked it from the farmer and a local vet found five pieces of shot in it’s (sic) body.

They are planning to release it once it has recovered.
 Shot. From a shotgun.

  1. "No, just the once..." Unless you own automatic shotguns, firing one-pellet cartridges, Julia.

Prince Harry, the slayer of protected birds and main suspect, invoked the customary royal prerogative of declining to provide police with an interview, alibi or statement.

Cowardly N Yorks plod chiefs have responded to the snub with "Carrion, then".

  2. The disgusting fact is people who can't tell one bird from another are roaming around with guns. No true countryman or woman would ever shoot such a bird and these fools bring all true county sports people into disrepute, they obviously don't know how to shoot properly either or they would not have just injured the poor bird. Utter prats!

  3. @MTG - There ARE shotgun cartridges with one-pellet loads: but rifled slugs are Section 1 Firearms certificate controlled.

There wouldn't be much left of a bird actually hit by one of those, let alone five.

I abhor guns and see no good use for the same. However I concede there are many addicts who drool over any killing instrument, particularly members of the 'have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands' brigade and gun rights advocates. I must bear your source of expertise in mind for an occasion when detailed information on firearms/flick knives, is required.

A small 'grab sample' of the owners of guns I know...or once knew, are/were without exception, ignorant, paranoid or both. Statistics show that having a firearm in the home, even when it’s properly stored, doubles your risk of becoming a murder victim and triples the risk of suicide. In the time between a murder or suicide, gun-toting nutters will continue to find insane uses for their weapons...such as blasting beautiful creatures in flight.

  7. "A genuine question, are you feeling unwell?"

Impressed by unfeigned, if somewhat misguided concern for my well-being, I must allay your anxiety to explain that the acknowledgement of feelings is both a positive and healthy sign. It is good for you physiologically and for your emotional health.

Shooting birds in flight or fleeing suspects in the back, sucks, old chap. And there has never been a scientific or medical basis to indicate that purpose-motivated complaining is a sign of being unwell. Hope the explanation helps, old chap.

I see others have schooled you in firearms. Perhaps less abhorrence of guns and more educating yourself might have helped you not to make a fool of yourself...again?

"Prince Harry, the slayer of protected birds and main suspect..."

    In this? *rolls eyes*

"No true countryman or woman would ever shoot such a bird..."

    Absolutely.

Your desire to mark 'homework' reveals a need to be seen as 'teacher', JuliaM. But there's no bigger fool than the one who claimed I had misspelled 'colour'. Remember? Oh, you will never forget it?

That was the moment I realised you placed a foolish reliance on Spellchecker - the American version, you idiot! Secondary Modern School education does leave clues, resentment and scars, dear.

  10. And whenever that big schooling chip compels you to label others as fools JuliaM, you do not have to look far among your limited following to find prime examples. The Phorcides sisters - Penise, Jaded and teddy boy, share a brain cell along with an eye.
