Look Who's Back...

A woman who was spared prison for spitting at police has been jailed over another abusive incident.
Jane Challenger-Gillett spouted racist abuse at a police officer and tried to punch another when she was in custody.
Yes, a familiar name.
The 55-year-old had been a lecturer at the University of Brighton, but is understood to have left her post following a conviction in April where she spat at police and made coronavirus threats.
Not sacked. Oh, no. Clearly, being a mad drunken violent nuisance is no bar to employment here!
She appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court where she was ordered to serve six months in prison because of her repeated crimes.
Wonder how long she really will serve?

  1. Hopefully this will be a wake up call and make her realise she needs to battle the demon drink. It's so hard to lose everything due to addiction but sometimes everything has to be lost before an addict makes changes. I hope she learns from this.

  2. As soon as she used racist language she was toast in Brighton. Assaulting police officers and drink driving ? No you carry on love...

  3. When she is released from prison...and after reading your kind wishes, JuliaM...there is always the chance she will be found dead at the bottom of Beachy Head. You know, like that troubled 'fucking international lawyer' Simone Burns, eh?

  4. Yep, modern acadmia everyone! Violent drunks welcome, conservatives not so much. If she'd said she voted 'leave' her feet wouldn't have touched the ground.

  5. Drink is often blamed for the actions of offenders but it is frequently not addiction to drink that is to blame. Offenders who lack the courage to rant in the street or attack others regularly use drink as a disinhibition tool. Decent people are decent even when they drink but nasty people are shown in their true colours when drink gives them the courage to drop their masks.

  6. My thought was that we all do daft things when we are young and getting pissed for the first time. Learning how to handle your booze takes a little time and experience. But then you read that she is 55, certainly by that age she should know better.

From your first link, vast majority of reader comments all deleted at the same time (ie by the paper). Some anti Challenging Gillett survived so how bad an they have been ?

  8. If Brighton just slipped quietly into the sea one night, would anyone really care?

    In vino veritas.
