"The war machine springs to life, opens up one eager eye..."

Then closes it, because who wants to start all that business, right? Over one little...

Oh.

A US defence official said earlier that Biden had asked for military options but that the Pentagon believed shooting the object down would put people on the ground at risk from debris.

That whirring sound you can hear must be Curtis Le May turning in his grave...

  3. What altitude is it at? Does the US have the capability to hit a stationary target at over, say, 60,000 feet? Missiles aren't designed for that, fighters can't get up there except in a zoom, that is a ballistic arc, they can't sustain those heights. Not being physically able to shoot it down would be very hard for the US to admit, so they pretend they don't want to.

  4. Surely, being Chinese, it should be a narrow ellipse rather than round? (And yellow, not white).

  5. Back in the 50's and 60's the US used balloons to spy on Russia. It is, however, a most inefficient means of carrying out reconnaissance.

  6. This whole thing is a bit of a joke.

The US can easily block all radio transmission back to China, giving them the option to down it at a later date once they had maximum propaganda impact.

The sad truth is, we can't go to war with China because they make everything. The war would be over within three months as we run out of parts and components. The west painted itself into a corner.

    Many years ago, in Roswell....(allegedly).

Turns out they did indeed have the capability.

"This whole thing is a bit of a joke."

It's rapidly turned into a complete farce now.
